The 10's start on Wednesday 1st May and run through until last week of Aug. Signing on from 6.30 at the finish on the concrete pad. First rider off 7.00.

First of all we need timekeepers and pusher offers. Please help by putting your name down to help. 1 timekeeper means a limit of 21 riders, 2 timekeepers means up to 30 riders. No timekeeper means no race that week!!

Now, demand will be high, its first come first served so get there early to get a ride or even better do a timekeeping stint to enable a 30 rider field.

The cost this year will be £3.

    Heres those important reminders again....
At the start if you are waiting, please keep off the road and in the layby. The only rider in the road should be the starting rider. the start is on a blind hill and riders spilling into the road creates danger. If you have more than 4 or 5 minutes until your start go and warm up!!

At the finish, DO NOT bother the timekeeper for your time, warm down and then congregate on the concrete pad or the grass triangle, but GET OUT OF THE ROAD. Riders will be finishing at speed and riders milling about in the road is not helpful.

if its a strong southerly wind, do not exceed 30 mph in Guilden ( i realise this may not apply to all) and be polite to the locals even if they are pottering along at 20 mph.

Generally, remember that you have to follow the same rules of the road as everyone else, ie giving way if you have to, stopping at junctions if you have to etc.

Keep your HEAD UP and stay safe.
  • Tim, I will hoping to ride a few more 10s this year. I'm also happy to help with timekeeping / pushing but haven't any experience of either, is this a problem? Will I need a crash course!!

Would be good for the club to keep 30 riders each week
  • Same here as Matt, no experience with timekeeping and need some guidance, would like to learn how it works. Also wouldn't mind signing on to ride and still doing the pushing off, just being the last to go.

I've read funny stories about timekeeping going wrong, but ultimately it leaves an unhappy rider! And back at an HQ at the final open Hill Climb of the season last year, after seeing a timekeeper explain to a rider that he had messed up his time (and the rider looked very annoyed), i don't want this happening to me! I need to learn the ropes.

I won't put my name down on the doodle yet until i know what I'm doing. But looking at my TT calendar i can spare some dates from June.
  • Great, thanks chaps.

Its really not that complicated just requires a little bit of focus and not getting distracted by people asking you questions while you are timekeeping!

The best thing to do is to put your name down when someone like me, David J or Lindsey is doing it so that you can learn the ropes.
  • I'll try to draft Mrs S to do some time keeping so I can ride! ;-)

    Sgt. P
  • Useful PDF of 'what to do' here.

It's not difficult at all to run these evenings - just keep a cool head. So please help out. And run two stopwatches. And maybe even a back-up third from your watch or phone.
  • I am sure there will be an evening or two where I can push off
  • The weekly Club 10 mile TTs start this Wednesday for the summer months.

We still need plenty of volunteer timekeepers and pusheroffers please.

    Just put yer name and tick[s] here;

  • Thanks CCA Forum,

Just to be clear, any blank spaces mean that the 10 will be cancelled that night, i have no problem with that.
  • Same as Matt and Pearce, not done timekeeping or pushing off before, but willing to have a go.
  • guys is this on tonight? Ive recently joined club so will be my first one. Happy to help with starts etc etc
  • Definitely on this evening: there are people to timekeep and push off - so can go up to 30 riders.

    Great if you can volunteer - tick the date[s] you can in the Doodle here;

    Remember...

    1 timekeeper = up to 21 riders
    2 timekeepers = up to 30 riders
0 timekeepers = a cosy evening in with Coronation Street.
  • Given there are quite a few people who are kindly offering their help with timekeeping but haven't done it before, I'd be happy to do a short 'learn to timekeep' session and explain what needs to happen. As has been said before, it's a daunting prospect but actually very straightforward. I live very close to the start and will have all the kit here for the next week. I could do a quick evening get together to talk people through what to do?

Let me know if you're interested. Given the bank holiday it would probably have to be Tuesday early evening if it's next week - or we can do it the following week / weekend. Let me know what suits.

    Lindsey
  • Thanks Lindsey, great idea, would like to do this. If it's an evening the earliest i could do it 6.20-6.30pm.
  • Also would be up for doing this Lindsey. Earliest I could do in the eve is same as Pearce
  • if i dont get lost en route i'll see you at 6.30 ish!!....cheers. Jon.
  • great idea, thanks Lindsey!

Just a reminder for tonight...it is now £3, and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take note of the safety reminders at the top of this thread.
  • Malcolm, i see you are down to time keep tomorrow night. I can be around tomorrow as well so ill bring all the kit and see you down there.
  • Hi Tim, I have the T T kit with me, see you tomorrow.
  • Anna will help tonight too. She would like to learn the ropes from you too, Tim.

    Mark F
  • Just note i have had to rearrange the dates i had marked to help.
  • Tim, I'm down for helping out tonight. What time shall I meet you? 6:30?
  • 6.30 would be great, thanks
  • Noticed for tomorrow and the next few week's there is only 1 person down to help out, i can't for a few weeks myself.
  • I can help out tomorrow.Robert, i have the kit and will bring it along.

    Im away next week though.
  • After coming along last week, Lucia is happy to help again so I've signed her up for tomorrow.
    Susan
  • Fab, thanks.
    See you there
  • Sorry David & Emma but I cannot make Wednesday now.
In fact I'm taking myself out of helping duty, with a baby due any day from now I cannot be relied upon.
  • No probs Chris, thanks for letting us know.

Anybody else around to help with the TT? As we normally get more than 20 riders could do with a hand setting off while I go and time the first finishers.
  • David,
Ive got to come in to Ashwell at about 6.00 tomorrow, ive also got the kit so ill see you at the start and help you setting off.

Folks, fair warning...there are a lot of gaps as we get into August on the doodle and i cant fill them all. We will cancel if there are no helpers.
