This legendary TT is taking place on the 28th April - somewhat foolishly, given my lack of time trialling or climbing skills I have entered. Any other fools?
I had a look at it but it's a bit far away and an 8am start. Entries have closed now too. It does look great fun though. You have a bit of time to get some hill practice in! Have a good ride.
I should have posted earlier, but as I am new to the club, it hadn't occured to me.
You're right about the distance. My parents live nearby so it makes a convenient weekend combination, plus I have to go near there on business on Friday as well.
It's not lack of practice but surplus of size that makes me suffer on hills. Don't see that changing much over the next week (or ever I'm just a big guy).
That was a tidy time John, you were the 8th Vet on a road bike, plenty of riders beneath you, well done. For anyone that doesn't know the difficulty of this course, this is the Strava report of the winner MATT CLINTON Some nasty climbs there.
I definitely have the desire to go back next year and dip under the two hour mark. But Matt, Tervan and others who got under 1:40 were just unreal yesterday. I got passed by Tervan in full flight and the speed differential between us was huge. Combined with the noise from his rig, it was like getting overtaken by a fighter jet.

I'll post here how it went.
Beacon have been running this TT since 1948 and it shows - they have the organisation down pat. Beautiful and demanding course welcomed 110 riders, many in in full battle gear, but quite a few like myself on road bikes, in the historic Roadman category.
Weather was kind, and we had sun, it wasn't too windy and no rain at all.
I had no real idea how to pace this, and as I'm not tester and no hill climber, had no real expectation as to how well I might do. I went off at FTPish and went over uphill and recovered downhill. Simple strategy and seemed to work well enough as I made it back without blowing up and and still being able to push hard into the last 5 miles.
Posted 2:01:50 which is mid-field, but the atmosphere and the beauty of the course made this one of the most enjoyable rides I have ever done. Despite being at 96% of FTP AP for two hours! Hard to believe.
Highly recommended.
