  • time to dust off the rigging and put it to good use
    Sunday morning adventure
    see you there

    CP
  • Aye aye Cap'n, see you there.
  • Too much grog, so aiming for solo voyage this morning. Preferable to being keel-hauled!
  • Too much grog or not, ships rules says no-one gets keelhauled or cast adrift from the Black Pig!
  • Alas, Mrs Barnabas would keelhaul me for reversing decision to swab the decks and make repairs in port. Solo adventure later when mermaid's siren call averted and grog's effect has slackened, enabling a steadier course to be taken!
  • So ...... your land wife says - no!!!!!
  • Aye. Unhappy with me sailing 2 days running with Ashwell's fine fleet. Shiver me timbers!
  • Fantastic ride in the sun today, 13 out (unlucky for some), 48 miles @ 17.2 when the Black Pig took a broadside on the Guilden road - carnage!! Put me into a run off ditch on the side of the road resulting in the need of a new helmet - saved serious injury landing directly on my head, broke a carbon steerer - new forks required - and a new front wheel. I was the lucky one. Richard Tiffin, loads of very painfull looking road rash and a broken thumb. John Riddett off to hospital, latest is suspected punctured lung, 2/3 fractured ribs and fractured shoulder. Eventfull ride to say the least, but again shows the need to wear a helmet whenever you are on a bike
  • Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch....
    Hope everyone gets better soon.
  • Sounds awful, hope all are OK. Was a car involved?
  • OUCH !! again sounds nasty hope john is ok , i hope the one that took you all out gets the skurvy

    strappy.
  • It was a bike-on-bike-on-bike collision.
One mile from "home" the pace increased, as it does, then one front rider made an initial "break" (pardon the pun), upping the speed, I pulled out, went 'round the small group in front of me to try and hang onto the front rider's coat tails.

    Seconds later: CRASH!
    Three bike pile up.

Others can probably tell you more than I since it all happened in my proverbial rear view mirror.
    No cars in sight, thankfully.

The moral of the story: look after each other out there, but sometimes "£$% happens, in fact, it's quite surprising how infrequently it seems to happen given how close we are to one another and the speeds involved (even in the Steady Group) and the dire state of the local roads.

    Speedy recovery guys.
  • Thanks for the information. Again repeat hope all recover well, especially John, - anyone know which hospital he is in?
  • i see i thought it was a car ( i take back my skurvey curse) all's fair in love war & cycling.

it's normally me ending up on the deck with somthing broken.

    good luck all.

    strappy.
  • I hope everyone injured recovers quickly; sounds like a very eventful end to the ride.
Son's footy season ended yesterday, so I'll be digging out my tricorn hat and joining the crew again for the summer, starting Sunday, if there's anyone fit left to ride with!
  • I'm not too bad thanks everyone. Two cracked ribs, punctued lung (but not too bad I think) cracked shoulder but collarbone OK. Plus good bit of road rash. I was patched up at the Lister and sent back home. Go back tomorrow to the fracture clinic to be checked. I don't know how the accident happened. We just got stuck together three bikes side by side for a few moments before the inevitable. I think I will be out of action for a few weeks though.
    John
  • Oh no...I am really so sorry to read of this nasty spill. I don’t recognise two of the names but I do know John R and hope you all make a complete recovery very soon. Though it sounds like John will be out for a while.

Were you the CCA Blue Train that I saw in Thriplow about 12.00 noon? You all looked to be going so well and the weather was excellent.

What a nasty end for some to a nice ride.

    Wishing you all well,

    John Meadows (CCA Saturday rider)
  • Hope everyone recovers soon enough, looked awfull when we stopped and came back to you all.
  • Vic
I'd love to know what the locals think.
Last Sunday's ride saw 9 (?) Leave and 2 return.
This Sunday would have had them scratching their heads as people drifted back in slow time plus one group of walking wounded and a valet car with scraps o' bits o' bikes with some non-walking wounded on board.
"Loonies, them cyclists, mad as carrots the lot of them."
  • The riders in the Tour of Turkey did there best to re-create the crash at the end of Stage 2 - CARNAGE !
