How to ride faster by simply standing still.
I own a Joe Blow track pump.
Its PSI rating never bothered me when I bought it since I was mtn biking, and ran 30psi typically.
Fast forward several years to May 2012, and the purchase of a road bike.
This year's replacement tyres are GP xyz's or some such, as smooth as, and I was surprised they have a rating of 115psi.
No problem, that's the top psi on the track pump, or is it, so I duly pumped in the max front and rear?
I took the bike to the LBS, and Lo! the front was 80 and the rear 90 psi.
Thus, I was running the tyres at -25 psi or worse below the recommended pressures.
The difference? Enough to tell warrant telling you about my error here, and the turn in, far sharper and smoother.
Downside: it's even more like riding a wooden framed bike, made worse on these local roads, and so my dentist is kept busy!
