Durham Delight

About time for an update everyone.

The weather has finally turned and yesterday and today have been simply glorious. Warm, calm, sunny and blue skies.

I decided to test a longer ride so if anyone cares to map it here goes. This ride has everything and is a joy and a killer.

Bowes to Cotherstone/Romaldkirk/Mickleton/Middleston in Teesdale/N/E on minor road running parallel to main road over Weardale down to St Johns Chapel/East to Stanhope/Wolsingham/over Hamsterley/back past the forest and onto woodhead/Kinninvie /Barnard Castle and back to gilmonby via Bowes. I'll try and map the ride with climbs and distance, but the road from Middleton to top of weardale was mostly straight and a continuous climb. No let-up at all.

We are on with the house now so hope to be warm and comfy by Sept.
All good here and missing the rides with you guys but there is another world here which you are going to love when we're sorted.

see you for AGM and our grass track racing on Saturday. If you are not riding then do come along and watch the fun. Might do a Sunday club run before driving to Manchester on 2nd for the velodrome.

  • what a difference a day makes.......so that was spring and summer all rolled into 2 days......back to strong winds, rain, no sun and cold. Situation back to normal :-) still beautiful.
For those interested, only Sycamore and hawthorn trees in leaf...all the rest still waiting for spring I guess.
  • What a difference indeed. We cycled (Just) up from Stanhope to Parkhead station on the last day of our C2C ride. (Thursday) Must be some of the worst conditions I have ever ridden in. Wind that made track stands easy, rain, fog, very low temps and a gradient like nothing around here.

I am sure it was beautiful if only we could have seen it. Parkhead station tea room was a real life saver and we had only done 2.5 miles out of a 45 mile day!!
