Eastern Division Road Race Championship 31st may 09
lLetting you know about this as this Sunday 7th June was the COLDEST I've been in a race for ages yet last week the HOTTEST for ages !
What a contrast in only a week!!
....Class field with some of the top riders in the country so needless to say what with that,the heat and 156.6 km to do,confidence was not high.After a blistering first lap where Duncan Urquhart and Ben Thomson blasted from the off and eventual winner Joe Skipper and a small group getting across the rest of us in the bunch were quite relieved when we slowed to a more manageable 25 mph average!
Worked hard but there was no way we were ever going to eat in to their lead and at times thought of you all on the 100 mile club run and wished I was there instead!
Kicked myself for missing a good chance to get away with Vince Divine..After that the bunch began to dwindle as more and more riders retired...had a good dig at the end but was caught on climb..finished 38th!!
Doesn't sound much but to be honest I was pleased to get round ..and didn't feel too beaten up..
As an aside to this really annoying for Richard Law in our club not being able to ride..he was on start sheet and then told that it is now where you live not were your club is registered that decides eligibility!! He couldn't ride as he lives near Bedford..Bloody ridiculous!Could have done with him there..Winner Joe Skipper was in BMC UK RT..they had 8 riders!!..guess they all live in Eastern Region..
Anyway that was a hard race.....
