Grass Track - Maldon 22.06.13
Great day for Ashwell CC out in Maldon, near the coast, we had 4 riders representing the club, all youths!
U8: Mark Lightfoot
- Mark was the only U8 there! So he was put in with the two U10s. He raced very well, and put a amazing performance in the 4 lap scratch. He attacked with about one and half laps to go and pulled out a massive gap between the other riders, (remember the other two are both U10S!) He ended up winning this race, and overall won the U8s (not a surprise), he was very pleased with his £10!
U12: Adam Lightfoot and Connor Humphray
- Adam and Coonor both put in very good races; Adam did very well coming overall 3rd in his category, he was very pleased as there were some stong riders. Like his brother in the 3 lap handicap he pulled a huge gap flying past the other riders to win that race too! Connor also put a very good effort, looking very quick in the 1 lap TT.
U14: Gareth Lewis (ME!)
- Well, I was quite happy with my result, I started off with the 1 lap TT (my fav event) and in my category I was the quickest. Then came the elimination, then the 3 lap handicap, and finally the 10 lap Scratch. In the 10 lap scratch I ended up being on the front for a bit which wasn't fun as it was very windy, no one wanted to go out and lead the race as it was a longer race. Overall I came second even though 3rd place had the same amout of points as me, the TT time gave me second place, £7 in the bag!
Last event was the Team Sprint, for that you have 3 riders and every half a lap the front rider pulls off.
Our team from CCA was Mark, Adam and Gareth. We were allowed to name our team something different than 'Team Ashwell' as it was a fun event, so Adam came up with the name
'Team Fred-Bob'
We were 4th fastest team, overall a great day of racing!
