Chaingang NO problems 02/07/13

edited June 2013 in Club runs
I have just seen a roadworks sign on my way to work. I states that from North Brook End (Final corner of chain gang before hill) down Flecks lane to Shingay, the road will be closed for 3 days from the 1st of July for surface treatment.

Firstly this means chain gang will have to find a different route

Secondly I think we all know this means tar and chippings, joy of joys

  • On the subject of bad roads, and although not local to Ashwell but i know some other guys ride around here, last night i noticed the road to Little Chishill has been loose chipped and not suitable for bikes, and it will probably be closed at some point to finish the resurfacing.

Looking on the bright side though, it means less potholes to negotiate for the (rest of the) summer

With any luck, the lane that links Flecks Lane to the Tadlow-Wimpole road might get some TLC soon too? But then again, maybe the council has a policy for growing its network of dirt tracks?
  • No sign of roadworks at lunchtime today, and road fully open. Warning signs still up though.
    Will check again tomorrow.
  • The road is open, same old road, same old pot holes, no workmen, no sign of any work - usual story.

So no problem for tonights chain gang as far as the roadworks are concerned.
    Thanks for posting though Josh
  • Thought I would try and be helpful.
  • I should be out on the chaingang tonight. As you probably know the wendy road has been chipped. suggest we see what state its in (i would like to see how it rides re. Sunday) and possibly reroute after that.
  • I wouldn't recommend the Wendy road at all... Certainly not at speed...
  • I drove it earlier. Saw two sorry souls (not CCA) picking their way through it.

    Totally unrideable.

Don't they tarmac it after the chips, or is it left as it is for the chips to be 'driven' off?
  • Phil, i hadnt realised until afterwards that you were heading round the circuit waiting for the chain gang. I normally do the same thing but got away a bit earlier than usual so met them in Steeple.
There was a mood to keep away from the tar fest on the Wendy road so we did a few laps of the Odsey, Steeple circuit. Sorry about that, i should have realised that was what you were doing.
