Cyclocross Bike Purchace

edited October 2013 in Press
Please can anyone help. I am looking at getting a cyclocross bike and have seen the Boardman CX Team in Halfords for £899 which seems to look the part. Do you think this would be a reasonable buy or should i steer clear? Your help would be mucho appreciated. Link attached:

  • Tim D has a slightly earlier model and is very pleased with it - see http://www.ccaforum.co.uk/comments.php?DiscussionID=3365&Focus=23650

If you're not already a British Cycling member it's worth joining as you'll then get a further 10% off, in addition to the 10% discount Halfords are giving on all bikes this weekend. To do this you have to buy online then when you collect you need to get a refund, and then buy again immediately ins store using the BC discount voucher. Halfords branches are quite used to that process in my experience, but phone first to check.
  • Tim is very happy with his Boadrman.

Another good reason to act this weekend is that you should get your bike in time to ride The Eastern Region CX League's Hempton Cross (November 17). It is miles away but wonderful.

  • Many thanks gents. Really really appreciated. Just ordered it online and called the Letchworth store to confirm discount. Its in the bag for £719 (10% Halfords and 10% British Cycling discount). Wow now need to hit some trails. Daniel may be a bit soon for racing but will keep ya posted. Thanks again. Andy
  • Well done Andy you will love it. Its actually not too soon to do a spot of racing. Just dive in and enjoy it. In every race there are new people who haven't done it before and these are usually bedding in nicely :)
  • Definitely just get along to a cross race as soon as you can! Although learning some of the cross specific techniques (such as graceful and efficient ways to dismount, remount, lift the bike, carry the bike, fall off the bike...) will help you move quickly through the field (both in terms of higher placings and the ever glamorous venue for cross races), all you really need is enthusiasm and maybe a slight shortage of self preservation.
