lost helmet

edited December 2013 in Club runs
as tempted as the Dutchman is
hes off the forum with a wiz

thoughts of swapped helmets he does not dare
discuss on the forum, his thoughts to air

but the mystery still remains the same
the grey lost helmet, who's to blame ?

John R says no, Tony C says nay
all are innocent, but I say hey

MC is not responding , a little bit fishy
I think he is using it to make himself look dishy

For the captain's helmet many do pine
But I am afraid to say that it is all mine

so come on who ever you are
your little prank has gone too far

the plank is ready , so please announce true
after all, we all know it is YOU

  • Potentially a hilarious subject, but I'll keep it to myself!

Not guilty....mine's got a Union Jack on it.
  • Hi James

Logged in to check Friday etc and saw your words above about your cycle helmet. Has yours gone missing since the Sunday ride? As far as I know John handed mine to me when we left - I have a silver Giro helmet with that bike from memory. I'm not in Letchworth this week so I can't check - is Saturday early enough?

    Thanks,

    Rupert
  • Hi Rupert

    sounds like you have mine
I am riding Friday , but have a spare
    Sat will be fine

    James
  • Hi James

If there's any problem with the spare or you need another helmet in the meantime feel free to get another one and I'll have the office send whatever it costs to your account the same day.

Will check the helmet when I get to Letchworth and if it's not mine I'll bring it straight over to your house.
Apologies again if I there's been a mix up,

    Rupert
  • Hi Rupert

no worries or need for any of the above
mine was a silver giro helmet ( I think )
    a Selev ego was left

bring over and we can swap when you are able to
I am not out riding Sunday, Saturday would be great

  • Harmony reigns once more

  • You should celebrate with a piratical rhyme, Cap'n.

On the subject of rhymes and the sea, I read the following in the recent bestseller, The Old Ways by Robert Macfarlane, which also contains a chapter on partly cycling and mostly walking the Icknield Way from near Cambridge via Royston, Therfield, Baldock, Letchworth and on through Pirton.

The Blue Men of the Minch

In poor weather or big seas...the Blue Men would come for your boat. They would haul themselves..malicious mermen dripping onto the deck, ready to pull you down. But then...the leader of the Blue Men will cast you a rope. What he'll do is he'll throw you a line of verse and one by one, everyone on board, from the skipper down, needs to offer a reply in like rhythm and metre. If one man fails, well then you've had your chance and the vessel is pulled down to the seabed with all it's men drowned. If by some chance all can answer poetically, well the ship is freed.

So that's the game on the next Sunday club run, but for the Blue Men of Ashwell!

  • on the subject of helmet's I can not trust
that the pirate rhymes will not go for bust

for the captain's helmet brings out base desire (s)
there are many who for the crown they aspire

The question is , Is it there for the taking ?
the plots and the intrigue are already in the making

But to my helmet I hold firm
The captain is ready for a second term

So on Sunday morning come and have a look
at the captain's helmet that nearly got took

away blue men, I don't like your hew
a pirate's helmet is always held true

  • The Cap'n's worried we'll go for bust
But talk of his helmet is quite just

A story of his missing lid
And finding out where it was hid

Pugwash didn't know where to look
Which of the pirates was the crook?

Who had pinched his pride and joy
That was his since just a boy

His body now began to droop
When looking out from on the poop

'Keep up your pecker', was the cry
As tears fell from the Cap'n's eye

A horrid week he spent in hell
    Looking for his trusty Bell

    Ended with the lid located
    No longer was he separated

From that which he holds most dear
And for that the crew give cheer!
