The more the merrier Luke. Looks like Will is planning same time as well as Bryn Davies. Maybe all tie in somehow. We are planning a long ride for Friday so guess you'll miss this unless you come up late on Thursday. I've got a ride planned for Saturday morning which should bring us to Reeth well before the pre-race entourage passes through. Daniel Doncaster is helping in camping planning/cooking etc. so let us know what your plans are. looking forward to seeing the club soon. hope weather is kind to us and the tour because I can promise you some jaw dropping rides through some of the most beautiful scenery in England.
Not sure as at present trundling 'round Skye, slowly making m' way to Cape Wrath, yes, via Britain's most feared hill climb, Applecross, 5.5 miles an over 2,000 of single track Tarmac to climb, still to do as I type.
Have ridden Hardknott, Honister etc too with 35lbs with no stopping. Lost some weight = sore rump! Finally sent 5.5kg home at Oban as the back wheel kept buckling and needed truing too often .... I had 85lbs (inc bike) which was starting to tell.
Will know more nearer the time. What's the postcode?
I not quite sure ... Sophie was wondering if Harley wanted some female company but I have Phoebe in school all week. You don't fancy taking up another young lady Shelton? Who were you thinking I could babysit for? Surely you don't need a babysitter at your age?
Think Shelton does Claire :-) Would be great for Harley to have a friend to cycle with We can accomodate here and maybe you could get here for late Friday and see the start on Saturday. Could all go back together Sunday..worth a thought or two. Do you do camping en famille?
Not very adventurous guys. I've planned several routes which all start and finish from here on the farm. They are the equal of this route and don't require you to drive out and back. Still, if you want to test yourself against a tried and tested route then I can see the logic. Same goes for you Daniel, I have several really challenging off road routes which can be accessed from the farm on your cross bike rather than that one on the way. Just thought it might be better if we are all up here and established so you can all come and go on rides to suit your desires. Just a thought.
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/408815312 try this Nat. 8 categorised climbs. 2 cat 2cat 3 74 miles only and 8000ft of climbing. If you want I can add weardale 2 cat 2 climbs onto this to round up to a 100 or more :-)
You really need to be here to realise just what fantastic routes we have. You'll understand in a week or so. Just you and Theo still on Tuesday? If so you can download these routes from my site to your Garmin and go have some fun. There is a challenging 10 mile TT ride to a great pub in Mickleton. Can just see you lot trying that. Daniel and I can be either end and synchronise clocks . Should be fun and a nice little spin back to the farm.
Cape Wrath in the morning, so likely I am going to leave my bike behind at some local SYMCS in a few day's time, and get a train ( bus, bus, bus, train etc etc) taking my tent & spare clothes and head to England in a few days, catch day 2 of the Tour, then return ( bus, bus, bus, train etc etc) to my ride, which has evolved into a coastal ish, clockwise ride around our amazing island.
Barnard Castle school, the most windswept rugby field I ever played on!
If you can get to darlington we can collect you Tim. I have a couple of spare bikes that would fit you so if you want some more cycling while camping here no problem. Great report of yours on the Ullapool leg. Sounds wonderful.
o.k. riders. Here is the 105 mile route that you wanted Nat. which also includes Buttertubs. 13 categorised climbs 3 cat 2 4 cat 3 2 cat 4 4 cat 5. Enjoy. Who is up for this bad boy? http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/453323034
Mails received Tim. Can collect Wed. from Darlington.
That's what I had planned Nat. as it brings us up part of the TDF course. Log this in your Garmin. I thought it a bit long and tough for some so we will split at Middleton in Teesdale and miss the 2 Weardale passes. You fast guys can then do this loop and see if you catch us. Some may want out at Tan Hill so that works well and the rest can do the Buttertub section. Three rides and allowing everyone to ride the first leg to M.in T'sdale at a group ride pace. You will simply love the challenge of the two 2000ft climbs and the descents. I have some interesting routes planned for you on Tuesday and Wednesday. We can all discuss options for Saturday and how best to arrange. We will get a good idea of the route into Reeth on Friday to inform our choices. I am hoping the weather is as kind next week as it has been up here this last week. See you all soon.
All booked in. Arrive Thursday, 13:25 @ Darlington, depart Monday, 14:23. A direct train to / from from Inverness, noot t'bad, the noo'
No idea how I will fayre, I have not done any fast rides, I stop often, and I mean, very often, all I have done is be a pack mule, humping 75lbs+ on two wheels (all-up) around the countryside with my cameras. This does not make me a long distance racing snake, I average 50 miles a day, sometimes less.
logged in Tim. I will collect you from Darlingfon. Don't worry. You will fly up the hills without the extra 75lbs of weight. We'll let the youngsters do the extra loop and see if they catch us. Should be great fun.
O.K. everyone. Counting down now till first club riders arrive Tuesday. Cross fingers for good weather. Please can all who have them bring their helmet/bike route cameras. Would be great to get some video coverage for some of the rides.
All those sharing the mobile unit.. Don't forget sleeping bags. Campers you are obviously prepared. If people have camp/folding canvas seats then these would be useful. We have limited seating here. Campfire site and assorted fuel ready. Nearest food and provisions are cross lanes on the A66 or Barnard Castle, about 5 miles away, so if arriving late make sure you have enough provisions to see you through breakfast.
otherwise all sorted for your arrival.
Please let me know what time approximately you think you will be arriving. It helps me to work around this and other stuff so that I can be around to show you where things are when you get here.
