Thanks for a good ride today. Good to see a few faces I haven't seen in a couple of years. Damn knee injury... Pace was nice and steady and the distance just over 60k. New bike even held up with no bolts or components loosening. Much good hearted banter, until I eventually heeded and did a turn on the front. Don't want to get a reputation you know. Will do some more next time now I have a feel for the pace and distance.
That said I haven't worked out the rules of this no sprinting in the winter, which seemed to involve an unannounced intermediate sprint and 2 up gallop at the end.
Andy - Not sure about the talk of dead cows, if it really was by the road how come 10 of us didn't see it?!?!

For to take the helm he did so yearn
A fine day and a flat route post feast
A day for consideration, not being a beast
But ashwell in sight , back came the old steel
The crew sent the long way, brought to heel
He set up Pete, left him out on front
He selected his gear, got ready for the hunt
Cause the smell of glory too much to ignore
For he is a Captain, not a sloth or bore
So the old one two worked its magic again
The line in sight, no hesitation no refrain
So age and treachery, beat youth and skill
Cut throat jake said swallow that pill
So luckily now is before the season of sprint
When the clocks do change, it will be just mint

Ps the intermediate counted of course
To spare those who'd been on the toot
A decent pace, but no real hurry
Speedsters slowed down by the curry
A funny story was told by Jake
Who thought he'd seen a mountain of steak
Hallucinations, he's not sure how
By the roadside, was that a dead cow?
Not only did Bullet Tony miss the chicken madras
But a chance to stare at dead bovine ass
Anyhow, that's quite another story
Let's get back to today and Jake's sprint glory
Pete2 was on the front once more
Moving at what he thought full bore
Gasping, his shoulders beginning to heave
Yet Jake shot by, with no by your leave
Led out by the sly and wily Captain
Pete's podium hopes were dashed again
That's the trouble when a finish line moves
Or your legs are slower than a dead cow's hooves!
