Two CCA one day classics for your diary

edited March 2014 in General
Tour of Flanders schmanders. Paris-Roubobbins. Make a note of our two Club one day classics in your diary instead...

Sunday 29th June 2014
The Geoff Denny 100 mile ride
will be run this year - always a summertime belter and you're never that far from Ashwell. A great social ride or perfect goal if you've never done a tonne before.

Friday 5th September 2014
Ashwell - Wells-next-the-sea Classic

Wind your season down with the 123 mile sprint to the Norfolk coast and get the train back, with the new tradition of a half way Belgian beer in Narborough.

By the way, the Club website now has a calendar;

  • Awesome hopefully be there for both
  • Hoping to make Wells this year. Good choice of date - kicks off my birthday weekend nicely!
  • The GD 100 miler sounds interesting, I need to do a ton ride, what is the route?

I was also thinking of sorting out a 100-mile circular route around Cambridge at some point...
  • Great stuff, Martin!
Thanks for the advance notice - 2014 could be the year that I finally get to ride to Wells (as opposed to sitting at a desk and wishing I was out with you lot instead)
Think the first Friday in Sept is the 5th though? Or did you mean Saturday?
  • timmer......the ride is logged on our routes site on the website.

Note to everyone....there are loads of club rides logged there so no shortage of different routes for anyone wishing to ride them. http://www.ccashwell.com/rides.html

Here's the Geoff Denny route. There's no finer way to tonnage than the good ol' GD100. Relatively flat, familiar lanes, probably a half way break around Elmdon and there's likely quite a few riders to draft with.

Jane - thanks! Deffo Friday... the 5th Sept for the Wells ride. Though if the weather is awful, I'd suggest postponing to the following Friday.
  • ...And another day in the diary for the ladies;

CC Ashwell will be looking to take part again in the Rapha Woman's 100. Building from previous years, it's the idea of getting women around the world to cycle 100km on one day.

    Sunday 20th July

Details to follow closer to the time. For now, it's in the Club's website diary.
  • Thanks Martin - great to know the events in advance. Definitely up for the GD 100. After a cycle-free winter season I'm back in the saddle and will be ready for some big summer rides.
  • I'm happy, indeed keen, to take the Rapha 100! Will post the route nearer the time, but for those who came last year, I was thinking of roughly the same, with lunch at Waresley. All welcome, also tell your friends who don't normally cycle with us, as Rapha are encouraging as many women to cycle that day as possible. 4000 women took part worldwide last year, this year Rapha are looking to double that. Seven of us rode last year, it would be nice to double our numbers too.
    Thanks, Susan
  • And, of course, our very own Primavera road race is a big day.

    Sunday 18th May

    Riders and volunteers please!

    Email carmelo@ccashwell.com to know more
  • And, Sunday 13th July, we will want to do a grand job riding and hosting the Interclub 25m TT at Guilden Morden.

All these dates and more are on the Club calendar.
  • Pirate ride will join the GD100

I will be on for the Wells Classic
( Pete to bring the brandy, Mark to speak french to the Italians, I will check my open university maths paper with the professor )

Good to see the calendar rides coming back

  • GD100 is a good step up in mileage for the Black Pig. Time to get the scurvy crew working harder, Cap'n.

Sounds a great challenge and should have miles in the legs after the Chiltern 100 and Dragon Ride earlier in June.

  • Just bringing this back to the top - couple of people interested and wanting to put the date in diaries
