Saturday 8th March 9.30am Fast and not quite so fast club runs

edited March 2014 in Club runs
OK we are going to try something slightly different tomorrow. Myself and TomH have noticed that there is a bit of a difference in speed on some of the rides, with a few riders wanting to go just slightly faster than club-run pace.

An an experiment, we thought that we would try a bit of a split tomorrow, so all doing the same route, but in opposite directions. I'll take the club run paced ride and Tom will take the club run+

So that we can give it a good crack, we will practice on a route we all know, so I'll do this one:

Ashwell-Buntingford-Hare St-Clavering-Langley-Barkway-Ashwell

and Tom will do

Ashwell-Barkway-Langley-Clavering-Hare St-Buntingford-Ashwell

Hopefully we can have a 50:50 slip and all wave to each other when we pass mid ride !

See you in the morning

  • Tom/ David,

Should any of the Saturday riders fancy coffee & cake after the ride - a chance to catch up with the other group, compare the route & speeds achieved.....Rebecca will be available to provide it.
All welcome - as with the Sunday groups.
Coffee & Cake - £1.50 with the money raised going towards the Jamboree fundraising.
  • Both the ride and the cake are really good ideas. Sadly, Olly and I can't ride tomorrow now as planned. I hope you enjoy tomorrow and see you next week.

  • Thanks Alison/Rebecca. Im sure you'll have some takers. Just hope my navigating gets us back to Ashwell!!
  • I'm not on this week, but the 'experiment' sounds a good idea and I hope it goes well for 'all'....have a good one...

Well the split run experiment worked extremely well on Saturday morning. A roughly 50:50 split of club run and clun run extra did the above route in opposite directions. Good pace set by both rides, and as if by magic we crossed by the ford in Clavering !!

As normal, the headwind on the way out was also a headwind on the way back with the addition of the uphill section near Barley - nice. Luckily no stampeding fallow deer near Barkway to slow us down this week though. Good sprint down Station road, brought on by the second half form of EmmaK practicing for the Hardriders TT.

Stopped at the Maynards for some excellent cake and to catch up with the club run extra riders to compare notes. Club run was 38 miles at 15avg and club run extra was 38 miles at 16avg.

Thanks all for a great ride, we shall repeat the format again soon!
  • Agreed, I think it worked out very well, 2 smaller groups is much more manageable, and doing the same route in both directions was a genius idea.

Thanks to both David and Tom.
