  • Martin... would have done but doing 100 the next day so have to give it a miss.
More early in the wk suits me.
  • I am coming back tomorrow night London to Heydon, would be up for it next week Tuesday?
  • Can do the going home leg but don't have a shower at work or ability to wake up that early. Leave west end 5.30?
  • Looks like Friday not possible now for me.

But... I can do next Weds 16th now and will commit to that, except if the weather duff.

Happy to get to Ashwell 5.30am if need be. 'Ardcore!

And remember folks: you can skip the leg back if you get the trains after 7pm, bikes allowed. I hope to do a few commutes over the summer.

  • James, I work in the West End, just off Jermyn Street and would be up for riding home to Hitchin occasionally in the summer. Like you, I have no shower facilities at work so have only ever use a Brompton for short commutes from Kings X. How do you get your road bike on the train?
  • I just take mine on the train, if it's busy I just take the front wheel off and stand for the journey.

Thanks for the route, I also work in the west end, would be good doing with a few if only to share the headwind
  • Tom, that simple? If so, a nice dodge! I think you're just around the corner off Oxford Street, so that's 3 already for the West End Flyer home!

  • I've tried before to board a KingsX train with full size bike before 7pm and been turned back. Admittedly, I never took the wheels off. Carrying it on in pieces might look better.

But the official time for FCC from out of London with a full size bike is after 7pm.

    Just checked…. may be doubtful.
  • Other issue for me is where to put the road bike once I'm at work. The Brompton fits under my desk. There are bike racks behind gates outside our building, but that didn't stop thieves nicking my colleague's locked new steed 2 weeks ago!
  • just realised i cant do tomorrow as kids coming down for a afternoon. Trip to Belgo on the cards too:)

re bike in train i get an early train and hope for the best. get some looks but nobody has ever said anything. Or I do some work at home first thing and get a later train in the morning to miss the rush and restrictions.

The attendants at platform 9-11 are strict and will not let you through before 7.
  • James: put Weds morning 16th in your dairy.

    Have fun in Belgos!

  • Yes like the olive oil and balsamic selection they have :)

Can't do next week as have taken few days off
  • Guys any chance of moving to Tuesday?

I'll join you for tuesday ride-ins after Easter, Tom, if that suits. But next week I can't.
  • Great stuff, road back last night and would really like to do with another as I am struggling to get a 'nice' route out of London ie not on an 'a' road and I end up coming out to 'north' if that makes sense....
Bloody fun though night riding! Clear lenses needed also!
  • Good effort Tom! Agree about night riding being fun, that's why I like riding the Letchworth Greenway during the winter evenings. A lot safer than London roads though! That said, I might be an occasional commuter with you all in the summer......
