Saturday 10 May, 9.30am club ride and Womens TOB

edited May 2014 in Club runs
OK, so at the moment its looking pretty dismal weather wise for the morning. If its not raining cats and dogs here is the plan for tomorrow.

As its the Women's TOB sprint in Baldock at 1pm we should do a ride that coincides with this. So lets do a southerly route out towards Hitchin/Luton

http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/baldock-eng/ashwell-sharpenhoe-pirton-l-worth-ashwel-route-45729334

Ashwell-Sharpenhoe-Pirton-Letchworth-Ashwell

which should get us back to Baldock in time for the race.

We can also do tea/cake around mine pre/post the event depending on what time we get back to Baldock

Right best start my sundance.............

  • I think you'll find that's a sun-twerk, Mr Jones
  • I'll be there come rain or shine

    Forecast for tomorrow's riding.
Trust you have winter bikes and / or mud guards fitted again?
  • Oh good call David....thanks...
  • Sun twerking oh I say !

Forecast looks a whole lot better this morning.
Thank you, David. You win the prize for most effective twerking
  • Don't take this the wrong way, but David may be built for cycling, but for twerking, he is not...
  • Great ride today even with the early rain showers, topped off with a perfect finish in Baldock watching the women's tour go past! Good route and timing David, thanks!
  • Enjoy that this morning !

Tough on the way out with a punishing headwind and my 8 speed winter bike didn't help with the ascent of Sharpenoe Clappers !! Great navigation by Adam around the confusing Gravenhurst villages before a superb (and v fast) run back through Lilly, Whitewell and then onto the TOB route through Gt Wymondly and Willian.

We thought at one point that we might miss the TOB sprint through Baldock, but we got there with time in hand & commandeered a grandstand seat on some tables outside the White Lion pub. Great crowd in Baldock for the ladies race - although there did seem to be more police motorcycles than cyclists !

Lets see how many CCA shirts we can spot on the highlights tonight :)

p.s. hope you got home ok with your broken spoke Nathan

An excellent turn out in Baldock high street and a great event - a few photos below
  • More images HERE

I am not a sports photographer, more observational.

    Both Baldock and Welwyn.
Baldock wins hands down for atmosphere!
  • Great pics all, and Bryn in the other thread, couldnt make it in time but looking forward to seeing it on the telly tonight

Well done on the timings and the ride David and well done you photographers. A good buzz around Baldock High Street eh? Nice beer and I hope you liked the lunch.

Hope you got home okay Nathan with your wobbly wheel and broken spoke.

The only one we spotted not wearing his CCA Kit was our kit man! What happened there then...?.
  • CC Ashwell can wear the yellow jersey too
    Harley in the yellow jersey
  • Whoa...tell us more...
  • Enjoyed Baldock high street, good atmosphere and good to see lots of cca jerseys. Great support from the public for this race, really good news. and the racing has been really exciting too. Didn't enjoy seeing the back markers have to race through the traffic after the roads were reopened though. Looked like an accident waiting to happen. Still good incentive not to get dropped I guess!

A shame Lizzie Armitstead’s team has not learnt a lesson from the men’s teams of old, that light Lycra colours colours leave absolutely nothing to the imagination - as can viewed in the pdf collecting her prize - her outfit is more than a tad revealing.

How the back markers negotiated the traffic down Baldock High Street, it is a wonder no one took a tumble.
