Hello,
As a British Cycling registered club within the region we would like to invite your members to join us at Round 1 of Channel 4s StreetVelodrome Series on Sunday 8th June to be held at the King George V playing fields as part of Sport Stevenage.
The televised series is being run in partnership with national charity UKYouth, the London Cycling Campaign and UK Anti Doping 100% Me clean sport initiative. For more information about the StreetVelodrome Series and to view our recent exhibition event go to www.streetvelodrome.com.
We are offering an exclusive 50% discount on race entry fees for your members by using the following voucher code BCCLUB50. That will make Senior (24+) entry just £11 and Junior (14 to 24) just £6.
The StreetVelodrome Series is the Worlds only pop up track style racing competition and will be touring the UK during 2014 as part of the Channel 4 series. The competition is a unique blend of amateur and pro rider head to head pursuit races of just 30 to 40 seconds. Its very entertaining to the spectators and offers riders an adrenaline rush filled opportunity to race in front of the crowds and the TV cameras.
The StreetVelodrome Series ambassador Nicole Cooke MBE will be on hand to start the 2014 series with Round 1 in Stevenage, as part of Stevenage Day and in partnership with Stevenage Borough Council and Sport Stevenage. http://www.stevenage.gov.uk/about-stevenage/stevenage-day
Other rounds of the series include: Round 2 held on Haven Green, Ealing, in partnership with Ealing borough Council and London Cycling Campaign on 21st / 22nd June. There are further rounds at Harewood House as part of the official Tour de France Grand Depart ceremony on 5th 6th July, Stockton as part of the Stockton Cycling Festival on 13th July and Paisley as part of the Common Wealth Games opening weekend celebrations on 26th July. The very best amateur riders from the regional rounds of the Series will be invited to our Super Final in Exchange Square, City of London on 7th August for a chance to be crowned a StreetVelodrome Series champion.
There is a male and female competition, both enjoying equal billing. Bikes are provided (all competitors must use the same standard specification bike). These are single speed (free wheel) bikes with dropped handle bars, brakes and flat pedals. The iconic banked corners take just a few laps to get used to before riders can start to test their sprinting and bike handling skills.
Each amateur rider must pre-register to secure a place. The Try Outs run between 0900 and 1200. Each rider will get bike loan, bike fit and on track coaching as part of their experience. They will then be able to set their fastest 2 lap time trial time. The very best riders (male / female) will be selected to join the Pros in one of the four teams taking part in the televised series. The races are simple head to head pursuit races with the winners progressing through the competition. The top male and female riders of the day will battle it out for gold, silver and bronze medals.
Your members will be able to compete in the morning time trials in your club / team kit which may be captured by the Channel 4 cameras filming. If any of your riders go on to qualify to race they will be issued the race jersey of the StreetVelodrome Pro Team they get selected to ride for.
