I put my bikes through my home insurance (Halifax) but there is a limit to the values allowed in the garage therefore the higher valued ones are covered if they are stored in the house! It also covers away from home & abroad.
I think you will find that British Cycling have one of the best going....can't vouch for cost against others..try their website if you can navigate around the new one!!!!
I know this is a long time out of date but for the record CIS did a very good household insurance package whereby all bikes are insured up to £1000 each if in a locked outbuilding. You could pay a small additional rate to increase individual bikes to any limit.
i have halifax now as CIS would not insure a timber framed house. The cover is much less good and more costly. Also have to itemise and pay a surplus for expensive bikes and they want full proof of purchase and evidence of ownership prior to paying out.
CIS would be my preference. I will look at M&S but £4k only covers half of my stable.

As long as they're within a locked building, including a shed, they're covered.
And if you take they're top package you get accidental damage and cover away from home for up to 30 days.
Much better cover and pricing than a specialist insurer IMO.
Marks and Spencer appeared to come up with the best deal for me. £4K of cover for bikes etc.
Hope this helps
