Anyone fancy a trip out to Hatfield Forest?

It's a CCA favourite that I haven't done before and I reckon with my Garmin and Martin H's (plus a little bit of creative licence) we'll be fine. It's about 100 miles, with not much climbing. Let me know if you're interested and I'll hunt down a caf

  • I can be out for 3 or 4 hours, but have to be home early as I have family staying.

    Route is here Hatfield Forest
    (Thx Martin L)
  • Hi Jane and all. Just checked my mapping and for some reason there is a deviation at crossroads just after Radwinter. You should cross straight over the B1054 rather than that silly left/right/right through Radwinter. Otherwise the route is as I first rode it. First section to that point is a bit lumpy and hence slower. Afterwards it picks up and is a fast second half to the ride. Have fun.
  • No racing for me for a while so I should be out on this, but ideally need to be back by 12, so I may turn off at some point.
  • Sounds like Grafham might be a better option this week (62miles)
  • I would love to come on that (grafham) but don't have a bike
    have fun
  • Won't be there anymore, have a good ride.
  • Mini-train of 3 set off for Grafham ... until Cople, at which point Tom departed to see the family

We did a minor (unintended) detour north of the reservoir and I had my 1st taste of cycling the A1M in heavy traffic. Can't say it was fun but it did give me 1 hell of a reason to pedal hard. Perhaps if we had a few 60mph lorries on our Weds TT course I'd apply myself a bit better!

Legs hurt now from fighting to keep up with Martin's blistering pace - 60 miles at 18.8mph. Perfect prep for Lon-Surrey 100, though. Thanks Both
  • Only 3 out on a rather warm, sunny morning. Tom was was short for time so turned for home at Cople leaving me and Jane to head out to Grafham. A slight wrong turn meant that we ended up in Spaldwick so had a do 1km on the A14 to get back to Ellington and then back up to Grafham village and coffee at the cafe by Rutland cycles.

A tale wind home pushed the average up to 30.4kmh.
  • Great ride out, apologies for the early bail.
I lost a mile a hour on my average on the way home in the hills.
London 100 likes it's set to be quiet fun bunch :)
