Maindy Flyers National Youth Circuit race
Joseph raced in the Maindy Flyers hosted, one day stage race held at Llandow motor circuit in South Wales. With two races for each age group it was a long day with gear checks starting at 7.30!
The U10/U8 combined race was the first of the day, with their long race of 10km seeing the best of the conditions as the wind strengthened throughout the day. Gridding was based on National series points and as Joseph had none of these he was towards the rear of the 30 strong field. The eventual winner of the race made a break and soloed to victory from lap 1, which had the effect of splitting the field into small groups. Joseph found himself in the third group and with a strong effort dragged himself over to the second group. This group of 4 worked well together and Joseph held on for 9th place.
Joseph's strong performance in the 1st race should have earned him a favourable grid position for the 4.5km sprint race but due to a technical error he was again positioned at the very back. Some more strong riding working his way through the field from group to group got him 12th on the stage and 11th overall (10th boy). This should give him some series points for the next race at the weekend in Wiltshire
