Back on the 8am ride… must say I have missed it! So up for a long one...
Cheeky Brick Hill Hilly or the Hatfield 100 maybe?

Comments

  • I'll be there - i know, two in a row!! it must be serious... preferably not to hilly just yet, still shedding the pounds!
  • should be there - how about "two zoos" or my all new "wobinghoe" - both about 85
  • Can we do Hatfield pleeeeeeeeeeeeeez?
  • will you be navigating.......
  • urm... are you sure you want to risk that?!
Happy to have a go. Happier still if we had another Garmin with us
  • Hatfield 100 sounds top.
    Hopefully it will rain
  • Will join you for some of this but not looking for more than 3hrs in the saddle so will be looking for a turn off
  • I have a garmin, no idea how it works though :-}
  • Cool. Hatfield it is then without biblical rain hopefully.
Skelders... I'll email the route! I'll try and get my garmin working... playing up.
  • How many stops and what time you think we'll be back (just trying to apply for a pass)
  • Answer to that is a tad unknown for me… not done the Hatfield 100. Anyone any ideas and maybe a turn off for shorter?
  • To Saffron Walden and back to Ashwell is your best turn off. Much after and you might as well do the whole thing.

It's a fast 100 - a bit more climbing the the GD100, but generally the roads are straighter, wider, faster.

The highlight for me is the super fast stretch after Balsham to Fulbourn: TTT.
  • quite agree Martin. That was a total revelation when I first sussed the route but try as I might when the club did this route for the first time I was dropped by the fast guys when they opened up to stretch their legs. We had a second group that did it a tad slower, but still exhilarating. Super fast and reminiscent of a good French road. Have fun everyone.
  • Gd tea shop in Thaxted at 45 miles ... and at 72miles, there's a shop in Gt Shelford
Could be back by 2pm, but that might be a bit ambitious?
  • Route looks top
I think I will turn off at Wallington and make my way home and leave the slip end sprint
    Looking forward to it
  • Which way round are you going? Have only got time for 50, but might tag along if it works
  • Good question... Think it's clockwise.
  • Clockwise. If it's actually possible to tell Garmin to navigate a route in reverse, I have yet to work out the mythical sequence of buttons
  • Just an observation but.... if you do it clockwise you don't get the benefit of the balsam to fulbourne drag strip ttt
  • Can we agree to do it anti-clockwise, as per Martin's link above?
  • I hope to be able to join for a couple of hours, but have to get back for Henry's 2nd birthday party.
  • Teamsters.... my garmin is unhappy. Needs the doctor.
  • Teamsters, I've just done a 5 hour train back from Edinburgh in first class and had an intercity dinner of walkers and Stella, I could also be unhappy...
  • Perfect cyclist's diet Tom....er, hasn't enhanced my own sporting prowess though!

Cheers Phil. Enjoyed that. Now I feel like I really know Pipers Hill :)

Great to hear that Redbourn has at last got permission for closed road racing in its Fete du Velo (happening tomorrow, so it's v short notice!). Simon (from The Hub caf
  • 9 started but with time pressures we finished as 5 - me, James, skeldog, Jane and Steve - did the "wobinghoe" route = Woburn, eggington, slapton, ivinghoe beacon, ringshall, pipers hill(s), redbourne ( coffee & cake) and back via kimpton and Whitwell - 85 miles, back at 1.45pm
  • Thanks Phil. Puncture must have been a sign to turn around as I got back to Royston with 47 miles (aiming for 50) and at a time of day which kept me off the radar!
Puncture also served well in getting me off the front with Martin - Ouch!
  • I was just keeping the same pace set by Robbie and Skelders. A steady ride back with Robbie with a cafe stop in Ridgemont.
