Saturday 30th August 9.30am club ride

edited August 2014 in Club runs
I'm helping a friend move house on Saturday so won't be around to navigate a ride.

Would somebody like to volunteer to navigate in my absence? Thanks. Maybe a version of two bridges as we haven't been out that way for a while??

Have a good ride, see you next week.

  • Unfortunately I can't make this week either!
  • I'll be there if it's not raining (wuss!). You can't trust me to navigate though, I WILL get you lost!!
  • 2 bridges reverse?
I'll be there and know the approx route
  • I'm out. Bloody car's broke. Needs fixing. Hate them.
  • Sounds good to me Adam - I'm sure we can muddle our way around.
  • I'll come and muddle too.
  • I would come, but my cycling shoes are locked in said car, which now doesn't unlock!
  • About 14 of us out to do the classic 'two bridges' route. Good route but probably nothing classic about it - I'm not even sure we went over the bridges. Hope that everyone enjoyed the shelter from the wind as myself and Susan were on the front for about 35 of the 39 miles - needless to say I didn't stand a chance on the sprint!

A good morning and pretty warm, I think it was around 39 miles at 16ish.
  • I think it gets it's name from the two bridges over the A1, the one to Langford, and the one just after Blunham. We also varied the end coming down to the Wrestlingworth Crossroads rather than going to the end of Sutton, then up the single track road to Eyeworth. Thanks for a lovely ride everyone, 40 miles at 16mph is spot on for the 9.30am club run.
  • Emma and Susan did a sterling job on the front of this ride and we definitely crossed over the two bridges. Thanks also to Emma and Gary with his penknife for your support with my puncture.
  • I always thought that the two bridges were on the tempsford road, and are the ones that they have just installed the traffic lights on??

Could be wrong - Geoff what's the definitive two bridges answer??
  • Two bridges has indeed been a debate for a long time
I think if cross the tempsford two bridges and the two A1 crossings it should count
However not done this particular version before

I did then go out again and did the Classic two bridge route which is about 32 miles
We just keep adding extras on to make longer

Thanks to girl power doing all the work
I did none and then enjoyed the bunch sprint win
Bad boy promise to do lots next time, my excuse was going out again

Thanks to all for the ride
    James
  • Here it is David as requested. When we first started all riders took turns plotting routes and then navigating them. I preferred to drive the route prior to committing others to ensure the route was feasible. This was one of the first I did but at that time there were no A1 crossing bridges. We turned left before Sandy past the railway and crossed below the Tempsford one. We returned to the Langford water tower but had to ride on the A1 for a tad before crossing the lanes to Hinxworth. The advent of the two crossing bridges made this a safe route for all and opened up endless possibilities westward making this route one of our most popular ones. Bob was responsible for plotting the reroute via Potton and Everton hill to the crossing although a popular variant is past RSPB HQ and right up the hill and left down Everton hill. This direction is the classic version although the reverse is also popular with those who like struggling up Everton. Bob penned the name 2 bridges.
Another fascinating slice of CCA history. yawn :-)
