Wanted - recommendations for cycle hire in Majorca

edited October 2014 in General
Am hopefully going to get some warm weather training in Majorca early next year. Am weighing up the pros and cons of taking my bike vs cycle hire. Can anyone recommend any cycle hire places that they have used before? This might be a good chance to ride something top of the range that I have no chance of ever owning :-)

Thanks

  • We went to Arinal, just outside Palma in May, and used http://www.ciclosquintana.com/?lang=en - they were really helpful, and had some good bikes for hire at about 25e per day- they were out of Pinarellos, so we had carbon Merida Sculturas for a couple of days. They also suggested some really good routes, both locally, and also over the mountains to the north of the island. Think they've got about 3 shops spread around a bit.
There quite a few other shops hiring decent, carbon bikes- give us a shout if you want to know about routes near Palma...
  • If you are going to Puerto Pollenca or Alcudia (North coast near the mountains) then I've used these British guys:

Plenty of Carbon and Titanium options...

I'd recommend cycle hire over take your own for Mallorca. You'll probably fly Ryan Air and they want £50 each way for the bike. 1 weeks hire is about 140-200 Euros. No brainer.

    Book early though. Popular.
  • I'll second Pro Cycle Hire, been using them for 5 years and never had a problem.
Good bikes and friendly, efficient service.
Depending on when you are going, I would recommend booking your bike early, as the better bikes book up really quickly at peak times, such as the school Easter holidays.
I booked my 2015 bike last month, a titanium bike with Di2, it's nice to ride something different on holiday.
  • Yep, Used PCH a lot had a titanium Van Nic. last time. The bloke who runs it is a good mate of Mick G's.

Definately hire and be sure to ride Sa Calobra and the lighthouse ride.
  • Titanium is good for the lighthouse ride (Cap de Formentor). That road surface is past its 'best before' date...
  • Agree totally with Shaun, hire is the way to go.

I'm sure you can't go wrong with PCH. However they were fully booked when we went last year so we used the Pollensa Cycling Centre. So a backup option for you. A good range of bikes including full carbon, Kuota and Moser. They deliver to your hotel and provide a lock, choice of pedals pre-fitted, free water bottle and saddle bag with spares. This may be standard for hire in Majorca now though.

    www.pollensacycling.com.

The PCH cafe is good, just outside the Pollensa Park Hotel.
