Sunrise Ride, Sat 8 Nov, 6am

edited November 2014 in General
If anyone wants to join me for some or all of a 30 mile sunrise ride Saturday 8th Nov...

Ed VII pub, Guilden Morden - 6:00am
Three Tuns, Ashwell - 6:15am
Baldock - 6:30am
Back to see the 8am riders leave Ashwell - 7:59am.
Days of Ashwell, coffee and bacon butty - 8:01am.

Something of a less oft travelled route, including the "secret" road from Moon & Stars pub Rushden to Throcking. Don't ever be put off by the charming man who has installed a gate across the road down the way before the Throcking water tower - keep on truckin' - it's a public bridleway. Fight for your public access rights, people.

Sunrise 7:07am. It will be quite cold.

Lights! Mesh gilet! Action!

  • Way to go, Martin!

Looking forward to seeing your smiley, bacon butty-bound face at 08:01
  • Oooh, a secret road. Don't know that one. Is it tarmac?
  • Watch out for his dog!

Well, I'm a bit guilty of marketing again. Making it seem exciting. The road is sort of secret. It was - of course - introduced to me by Max Pendleshire with his wily knowledge of every byway and back street 'round these parts. It's tarmacked.

There is potential here for a 'good-to-know local secret roads n' paths' thread. Has anyone ever been led astray by Max on his cut through to Cockayne Hatley from the Gransdens? It will make carbon frame owners weep, but if you're in a hurry to get back to Ashwell...

See you at 8:01am Jane??? The other will be in Hinxworth by then. I'll see you before 8 and then wave you all off.
  • oops, yep my mistake ... see you at 07:59, Sir!
  • yes Martin. Often been led on such a ride by Max. Think I missed that one but remember trying to find it 2 years ago on a fixed wheel bike. Took the wrong turn and skirted too many muddy fields. Eventually got back to the road but not the official route. We ought to have these routes mapped as some are really good.
  • Assuming I still think it is a good idea when the alarm goes off, I'll try and make it to the tuns for 6:15 and join you.
  • I can tell you now Matt... This ride isn't a good idea! But needs must. And it might not seem so bad at 7.07am.

We should have an interesting low nearly full moon to chase in the dark.

If you're there you're there. If not: see you soon if not til cca london social 12th dec. great you can make it. Media blackout, right?
  • Ohh I'll see if I can wake myself and join you you mad thing
  • Mart if the lamp in our front room is on then I am coming out to play. Do a fly by just in case. If so the back door will be open and I will be moments from my launch. Fingers crossed. If the light is red then best not knock.
  • Good to see the 8am riders before their big ride of the morning.
