Tommy Godwin Record Attempt - 75,000 miles in a year
One of my friends from the Audax world is planning on having a BIG year in 2015...

That's a HUGE ask of the body.
Every day.
No disrespect, but doing one action, cycling, for 205 miles a day, every day, for a year, RSI will creep in.
What, I wonder, are your thoughts?
I note that the CCA have removed the Audax section of this web site.
You completed the 600km event diagnolly across Wales, bottom R to Anglesey (return), in itself a very big ask, & it was clear that in those 40hrs, you were vying for pole position.
How does that make you feel?
Steve (links above) and Kurt (link below). I rode across the USA with Kurt in 2007 (we were roommates). It's funny I actually know both these competitors quite well...

It should be a good competition.
Tim, yes it is a huge ask. I once rode 26 days straight for 3,450 miles. If I'd carried on for a full year, I'd only have racked up about 47,000 miles...
RSI? Possibly. Shermer's Neck is another possibility! Looking at the UMCA's rules, you can do the attempt on a recumbent. That would probably be easier.
Funnily enough, when I knew that Steve was planning this (a couple of years ago), I did have a (brief) think about it!
Nathan, both these guys are very motivated individuals. Motivation trumps boredom.
Sean: You personally rode an average of 132.69 miles a day for a straight 26 days, 3,450 miles. How was your body after this endeavour?
I am thinking about my own rides and my own recent mileage (5,500-ish thus far) and thinking about such things as hours in the day (winter months mess with things no-end) scrot-rot, niggling aches, ball-ache, feeding, hydration in the summer months and cramp, getting a good night's kip, then there are the things you can't account for, issues at home, the logistics working each & every day, the phycology of the endeavour (regardless of his preparations & previous experience), crashes, mechanical gremlins, finances, and I am sure, many other considerations too.
I am happy going solo, and I appreciate he has a back-up, & I have read his Bio, his CV, yet....
You did ride for 26 straight days - how did you feel about riding another 26 at that pace of over 100 miles a day, how about another 313 days at an elevated pace that would have to be just short of twice the pace you were managing? i.e. 205 miles a day.

"Can you, or a friend help?
There has been a fantastic response so far to help Steve reach his goal. However, some practical, local help at his home would be of particular help to him, especially during the first few months when he is likely to travel to and from his home, rather than staying out longer and travelling to other places.
If you live in or local to the Milton Keynes area and you have some free time in the evenings, maybe a block of time, say one week, or even an evening a week, or even a month, then please contact me, Lesley Sung, Home Support Manager.
Your help would be very much appreciated and you may be asked to do some cooking, washing, household chores etc, and maybe a little chat when Steve gets home."

He's done 2728 miles in 15 Days. He's about 400 miles up on Tommy Godwin, at the moment...
He's also on Strava if you want to follow:

At end of 31 Jan:
Tommy's Total Distance
4773 Miles
Steve's Total Distance
5743 Miles
Kurt is currently riding more miles per day than Steve (in sunny Florida)... (he started 10 days later)

It looks like his record attempt is probably over. Bad luck Steve. Knowing him quite well, I'm sure he'll have another go at some point in the future.
Kurt is still riding very strongly in America and is approaching 16,000 miles. He's been knocked off a couple of times too, but luckily grazes only.
GWS Steve and stay safe Kurt.
