Sunday 14th 9.00 club run

edited December 2014 in Club runs
Im around for a club run tomorrow, no cx for me this week. So was thinking of a 40 miler heading out to Barkway then Buntingord, Westmill sort of thing.

Hopefully wont quite be cold enough for ice but will take a view in the morning.

  • Weather permitting I will be joining you at 9am Tim . Any signs of ice and I will leave it an hour or so.
  • Hmm, its quite icy now just walking through my village. Will update in the morning. Could take the cx out? maybe not icy enough to prevent a mud bath but would be safer.

    See what the morning brings.
  • It is icy In Guilden. I was going to suggest an off road ride tomorrow. Tim would you be up for doing a cross/MTB route up Royston Heath way? I can alternatively do a route based on the cornfields but this is less hilly. I don't want to steal the Sunday road ride so leave it to you to say what we are doing but it will be icy tomorrow morning based on the ice on the car now.
  • Yes, quite a bit of frost on the car already. i generally prefer not to risk the roads if in doubt but will post as soon as possible tomorrow.

cx/ mtb bikes at the ready, ive got a good route from Ashwell, round the piggeries, to Baldock and Weston hills.
  • Will check the forum in the morning. The cross bike is at the ready. Hard frost now.
Weston hills via the trails sounds awesome.

Avoid the Barkway to Gt Chishill road if you're heading that way, approaching / the decent into Shaftenhoe End, it never thaws and you're in trouble and doing & 15+mph before you know it.

    Cloudy from 02:00
You do know that there's a meteor show this evening from the East?
  • It does look to have warmd up a bit but there is frost on the roofs here and our drive is frozen so im not going to risk the roads.

Will be at the Tuns at 9.00 on the cx bike if anyone fancies that.
  • See you there Tim
  • Does not look too bad now so going to risk it on the roads at 9
  • Five turned up and road the road, while two went off road. Hope the road ride went well via thaxted. Cheers for sorting my rear mech hanger failure Tim. Got home fine. Bike cleaned and lubed. Home in time for tea and mince pie. Robbie,s cheeky fifties here we come.
  • Road ride was good, only the odd patch of ice to avoid, we split at saffron Walden and headed back via duxford, there was a he'll of a headwind all the way back from newton!
  • Thanks for the tow Tom and latterly strappy... Head wind was a killer!
  • Well done folks. Glad the ice was not as bad as i feared. Had a lovely, if muddy ride with Vince. All good.
