Saturday 10th January 9.30am club ride

edited January 2015 in Club runs
Windy and possibly a bit wet for a time tomorrow, so to avoid getting precipitated on too much lets head west as the rain heads east:

In traditional Saturday style lets go up Everton hill & enjoy the tailwind all the way home. Sprint down Northfields unless it's still a quagmire (anybody been down there recently??)......

See you in the morning

  • Thanks David, that route looks good. I did Northfields last Saturday (where was everyone else?) and it was terrible. I slithered along at slow speed - wouldn't recommend it for a sprint if there is an alternative.
  • Happy New Year! won't be out tomorrow, off for Grandpa's 90th birthday. Have a good ride and hope you don't get blown around too much.

  • Still on?
  • Too windy for me (and Bob)!
    See you next week
  • I'm going to try to make the effort.
    See you there

  • Bigger group... Less time on front!

Just taking the disc wheels off!
  • I'll be there
  • Yep lets give it a whirl. Any suggestions for a more sheltered route?
  • Behind you
  • No shelter behind David
  • Indeed there was not! Well stuck at it though.. Was an interesting ride!

    Wow that was breezy !!

Surprisingly good turnout for a stormy day, with 8 of us out. General consensus was west is best so we headed off on the route above. So we left Ashwell, turned down towards Hinxworth and BOOM the wind & rain hit us......

There were highs and lows to the ride - low definitely was the 8mph I managed DOWN Langford hill into a 30mph+ headwind whilst somebody lashed stinging icy rain into my face & the peloton disappeared into the distance!

We all lost each other by the time we got to Langford, where Tim and Stuart called it a day after their epic slog from Royston. A quick phone call and a regroup at the Green Dragon pub called for a route rethink so we opted for a couple of loops of old warden/Haynes with the brilliant shelter of the many trees around there. After a bit more of a westerly slog we turned east for the ride highlight - the glorious tailwind :)

Speed was then the order of the day, so we motored it back to Clifton and then effortlessly up Langford hill at close to 20mph ! Jenny and Jez saw a strava segment opportunity so started the 'sprint' all the way from Hinxworth.

So a finally tally of 30miles @ 15 & a free facial thrown in for good measure!

Thanks all for a urm ...... bracing morning. We will all laugh about this in the summer :)
