Saturday 24th January 9.30am club ride

edited January 2015 in Club runs
Two options for tomorrow depending on conditions:

1. Ashwell-Shepreth-Fowlmere-Christhall-Chishill-Barkway-Therfield-Odsey-Ashwell

or

2. Reverse of the 'make it up as we go along' route from last week (Dunton, Sutton, Potton, Gamlingay Gransden, etc)

Lets do like last week and have an 8.30am ice check - although from the forecast it looks like we might be ok tomorrow morning (fingers crossed)

  • 1 degree and sunny - can't wait! I'll try to give a Dane End ice check if that helps.
  • FYI for route 1 the road that runs through Heydon which leads to Chishill is closed, not sure if it is passable by bike, they are digging up the road.
The alternative from Chrishall to Chishill is to use the main B road.
  • Good stuff. I need to be back in Ashwell by noon on pain of death
  • Thanks for the top tip Chris, we can go via Elmdon instead. All leads to the same place in the end !
  • Will be riding out from Hitchin so should be at the Three Tuns before 09:30. See you in morning :-)
  • Enjoyed the sunshine today. Bit of ice in Reed though and one bike went down, but no serious injuries thankfully. Hope those bruises heal quickly

Pretty mucky in the lanes, which led to a bit of discussion about clip-on mudguards (that don't work if you clip them off. D'oh)
  • I'm sorry to learn that someone came off in Reed and I hope whoever it was okay - several of us found the roads quite greasy. I made my way back from Barley to Royston. I'm pleased to learn about the discussion of mudguards.
  • No injuries John! Said rider seemed to just bounce back up.

Pleased to say that my bike's all cleaned up now and just awaiting reinstallation of the clip on mudguards!

    Bit fragmented today!!
  • Oh no. Hope rider and bike ok after that. Was on a curfew today so had to break off at Barkway or Barley (can never remember which us which). Much harder work out of the group! Made back by 5 past so just about avoiding the verbal beating
  • Sorry to hear someone went down on that icy corner. We relayed the message back that it was icy so unfortunate someone slipped on it :-(
Got back to Ashwell but couldn't hang around as needed to get back to Hitchin before 1pm. Hope rider is ok and no damage to bike.
Really enjoyed the ride and look forward to next weekend :-)
