Tour of Hertfordshire Series - Letchworth Grand Prix - Sunday 14th June
It's now all systems go for the Letchworth Grand Prix Cycling Festival!
A few months back we agreed to support an exciting new series of cycling festivals in Hertfordshire this summer in conjunction with Kinetic Cycles and Herts County Council. The Tour of Hertforshire series is a 4 round series of cycling festivals including a full programme of criterium racing. We are supporting the Letchworth Grand Prix round on 14th June.
There is loads of information I could share with you on the series but to keep it simple I'll stick to the key facts:
- The objective of the festivals is to bring cycling to the public - hence the town centre locations
- Festivals are based around a tented cycling village with local stalls - including beer and frites!
- Each festival will include 8 hours of closed road circuit racing from 12 noon
- Locations are Croxley Green, Letchworth, Redbourn & Welwyn Garden City
- Racing includes events for novices, youth, women, vets and cats 2-4 men, plus some fun events....
About the Letchworth Grand Prix
- The Letchworth Grand Prix is on Sunday 14th June from 12 noon to 8pm
- CCA will be supporting the race programme, Go Ride youth activities on the day and have a stall to promote the club
- We would like club rides to start and finish at the event on that Sunday - a good warm up for an afternoon of racing ;-)
- Criterium racing will be on an 850m circuit based around Broadway gardens at the top of the town
- Most importantly we will need help from club members for marshalling duties - MORE TO FOLLOW ON THIS!
Who from the club is involved
On the day we would love all club members to come down, have a beer, race (maybe not in that order) enjoy the fun and lend a hand.
In the run up to the event a few of us have volunteered to work with kinetic and help organise things:
- Jamie Q (aka me) - Racing co-ordination
- David Hadlsey - Chief marshal - he looks great in a yellow tabard!
- Lindsey Foulkes & Sallie Bracewell - Go ride activities and CCA stall
- Martin Lawless & James Davis - Just to add a touch of glamour :-)
Marshalling:
We estimate we will need around 50 marshals on the day to ensure a safe event covering junctions, road crossings etc
As with the Primavera we will also need people to help with sign on, bike checking and judging through the day.
There will be 3 marshal shifts through the day so members can mix racing with marshalling.
Marshalls will be fed and watered through the day - there is going to be a beer tent!
Before we resort to press-ganging can any volunteers please contact David Hadsley through the forum to register your interest....
Race programme:
The programme is packed with something for everyone - we are expecting a good contingent from the blue train across all the events.
All the events will be available to pre enter on the British Cycling website in the next week or so
Youth racing will be part of the Eastern Road Youth Circuit Series and womens racing part of the Womens Eastern Road League
Prizes will obviously be great (if not life changing!) - details below:
12:00 - Open course riding - club rides finish on the course
12:45 - Kids 1 lap scootathlon
13:00 - Go Race adult novice event (men & women)
13:30 - Youth under 10's (Cat DE)
13:55 - Mens Cat 4
14:35 - Youth under 12 (Cat C)
15:00 - Womens Cat 2,3,4

18:15 - Mens Cat 2,3
19:05 - Youth under 16 boys (Cat A)
19:40 - Elimination Race B (Top 10 from Mens Cat 2/3 & Vets)
This event should add to the fantastic stable of events organised by the club including the Primavera road race, G ride, Tour of the Cornfields, cross racing.... This list goes on.
If you have any questions or have the unstoppable urge to be a marshal please contact any of the team involved or post on the forum.

Think this is going to be a great event and series with fun for everyone! Obviously i will help out through the day before and after racing.
However given the occasion, I don't know what might be planned for me, I'd like to excuse myself from other duties
