8am Saturday 14 March GD100 (and shorter)

edited March 2015 in Club runs
MC suggested doing the GD100. Always a winner....
Geoff is down so it's a good route to work as a group- steady thro and off for the first 40 to Bourn cafe.
After Haslingfield we can blast up Chisell hill and take on the lumps. Maybe hitting the longer hills hard like interval training and regrouping. Gotta keep pushing ourselves eh!

Turn offs for 50/60/70/90M.

  • I'm ok for GD100 on Saturday as per Robbie's OP. Will be good to link up with Geoff and discuss training weekends for Paris Nice.

Looks like the cloud/cold returning for the weekend.
  • Winter or summer bike.... ???
  • I'll be along for a couple of hours probably. No mudguards for me I'm afraid...
  • I can't do this Sat.
  • Hi Robbie,
Could I join you for the first half and cafe stop. Trying to bridge the gap into a slightly quicker ride, but not up to maintaining that for the whole route I'm afraid.
    Pete
  • I'll meet you en route to Langford - will ride up the water tower as usual.

Will be eschewing mudguards - thinking Winter is over.
  • now that I'd like to see, Jeremy
be careful not to fall in if you make it all the way to the top
    :)
  • I blame the blasted auto-correct on the iPad.

    ha ha
  • All sounds good.
  • Sorry to form a splinter group with Pete this morning, would have been good to catch up with you all, just didn't fancy riding back into the wind when we were only out for a couple of hours or so. Did a cheeky little 45 mile loop out to Elmdon and back through Barkway and Sandon, same roads you'll be finishing up on! Hope everybody had a good ton. Nice weather for it!
  • assume the rest did well. No problem Will. Pete and I split after cafe stop in Bourne...we did 58-60 back to Ashwell...miles that is. Awful to see how far behind the group I am in fitness...hope to put that right from now onwards....the weather should improve enough for me to get some good miles in up north...not been possible this winter so this was my second or third longish ride in 3 months. Thanks for being patient guys. Enjoyed the chat and company.
  • Another good group and ride... 102miles at a steady 17.3mph. Can't wait for fridays 3 cafes ride and the GD100 on Saturday.

Enjoyed that - hurt a bit however.....

Thanks Robbie for ride management and a wheel to hang on to for the last 30 miles

    See you next week :-))
  • At the end I had 105miles at a tad over 17mph with over 5000ft climbing. Good group out today with folks peeling off as time/form dictated. Pretty sure Geoff will build fitness quickly once the weather up north improves.

GD100 is a tough ride - will sleep tonight.
  • Robbie and all thanks for a good ride and especially to Nathan for nursing me home. 97 miles but the average dropped due to total burnout. 1.5 hours of survival culminated in cold sweats, near blackouts and a forage in my pockets for crumbs to suck out from the bottom of my food wrappers. I got a morsel that fuelled me the last mile home. Still lacking in longer miles and climbing after 50 miles. So good to be home. Body in repair mode.
Won't be out on Saturdays for a couple of weeks but will keep riding.
  • Enjoyed everything until turning left at the post office in Ashwell resulted in a total wipe out/epic fail as my daughter would say. Salt and engine oil likely to be the culprit. Worst of it was watching my bike speed towards the front end of a car!

Good company and more controlled for the senior member amongst us.

Hope you had a good ride Pete and it makes you stronger

VF - no sympathy for you mate :)
  • Basking in the afterglow.
Hope you and bike are ok james. I've noticed the junctions and bends are very slippery at the moment and even after scrubbing my blue tyres they are immediately developing an oily black slick. I don't think it is just damp roads at the moment. There is a lot if residue on the roads.
  • Thanks James.
It is good for me to assess how far away I am from having the mental & physical capability to firstly complete 100, and then secondly to maintain the average you guys can achieve over that distance.
Still very much in awe, but focused.
    Thanks
    Pete
P.S - Hopefully see some of you tomorrow.
  • "for the senior member amongst us"..........sadly, 'tis true James :-) much appreciated guys.
