If you haven't yet made up your mind, you might want to consider what the political parties promise to do to support cycling:

the great thing about CCA has always been a religion and political free zone. Whatever ride you choose you could always guarantee that the only really serious questions were about the route, the bike, the kit, fitness, and the ability to lose your everyday concerns in simply turning the pedals.
    Long may it continue so.
  • I thought that was a really interesting summary, and unlike most of the media not trying to point you in a particular direction, just stating the facts. It's clear it is possible to change the landscape of a city / a town / area to make cycling as a form of transport acceptable and even preferable to the car. It's happening in Central London to some extent and other cities most notably cambridge on our doorstep. So it's interesting to see which parties have bothered to include cycling and the £/head figures.
  • Just trying to say that it is pointless selecting to vote for anyone based on their electoral promises whether cycle routes or economy...they will all say what they think pleases any particular audience at any time. No guarantee that they can or will see it through.
Agree that the article was well balanced.
  • Now is the best time to ask your MP what he/she plans to do to support cycling - because right now, they really are listening

If we were say, a knitting club, I'd agree that we wouldn't need to engage with politicians/government. But we're not knitters, we're passionate about cycling ... and there are SO many ways that the next government could make things better/worse for us that I don't think it's an option to ignore politics. Think road maintenance; design of new roads/junctions; safety features on HGVs; driver training; schools teaching kids to cycle safely; attitude of the police and law courts to cyclists; cycle to work scheme ... and I could go on and on (and I usually do), so I'm going to stop here!
