Quick question about proceedure on club 10's

edited April 2015 in Time Trial
Hi All

In conversation with members of my virtual club, the question came up of what happens if you puncture / have a mechanical or worse whilst out, and I realized I hadn't asked the question at the start of last week.

Last week I ran with no spare anything on the bike or me if anything went wrong, so If I'd punctured etc I'd have been stuck, whats the procedure to follow. Do the club send a broom truck out or is it a "you're on your own" affair?

Many thanks
Simon

  • Ah yes, a tricky descision, to take puncture spares or to travel light? I suspect we have a mixture of approaches.

Worst case scenario is that you have a 5 mile walk, which isnt fun in cleats! We dont have any official broom wagon and in theory you are on your own but in practice if you end up walking and other riders have seen you someone will likely come and get you. Obviously the timekeepers will start to worry if you dont appear so probably someone will come looking.

Or just use tubulars and ride home slowly!
  • Thanks Tim. I'll carry a spare tube now and levers. i noticed you counting people back in last week so I'm guessing its a once in a blue moon even, which I've now jinxed!
  • can someone confirm the start time.
I may try my first TT tomorrow.
    Thanks
  • sign on from 6.15. first rider off at 7.00. Hope the rain has stopped by then!

I had a mechanical in a Team Cambridge TT the other week. I'd drawn #13, so left my toolkit in place (I always remove it!). Ruined my race, but was able to repair well enough to cycle back to the start.

This was my first DNF, but still felt strangely grateful.

    Lucky or unlucky??
  • Something to do with shifting the FD I reckon. Best to stay in the big ring!
  • Errmm, is wasn't quite positioned correctly, perfectly to my liking.
