Marlow - Monday 25th May

edited May 2015 in General
Hi All,

I am thinking of venturing out south and west this Monday to ride around part of the Chilterns, following an excellent route that we rode with Shaun a couple of years ago.

The route starts and finishes in Amersham and is approximately 95 miles with 1900m of climbing with cafe stops in Pangbourne and Marlow.

It's a challenging route but not as tough as the chiltern 100. Good training for Marmotte and Paris/Nice or for just visiting an area we don't normally ride.

The plan would be start riding at 0900. I will post up a link to the route in the next couple of days.

Post back here if your interested.

  • Definitely up for this - count me in.
  • This is a glorious route. I am probably not available over the weekend, but if I can be there I will.

    Recommended.
  • Sounds great Martin. I should be there

It'll be really nice to see a CCA group in the Chilterns again. Fingers are crossed for shorts weather
  • Yes... This is Monday Bank Holiday ride... Top route!

Allow 45mins to 60 mins drive
  • Have a good one. This is a nice route on less travelled roads.

Note that we used a cafe in Goring last time.

I was actually in Pangbourne yesterday. If you want to push on to Pangbourne for the first stop, there are two cafes in the town now. Little Henry's and a Costa.

I'm doing my own thing this weekend. See you all soon.

Will definitely be at the start but not looking for a beasting Etape du Dales stylee. Hoping for something a bit more relaxed with two coffee stops and banter. Guess we need practice at "steady" before Paris Nice.

Oh and I took my climbing cassette off this weekend - thought I'd get my excuse in early!
  • Testing some ciders out so should back to usual tmw! Lol
  • This one Skelders!
  • Seven out enjoying the Chilterns on BH Monday. 95 miles at 16+mph with two relaxing coffee stops.

Thanks to Shaun for an interesting and testing route. A few dodgy road surfaces (and dirty old men) in places (beware those riding the Chiltern 100).
  • So Robbie and Jane started the day searching for Martin's (shall we say, under-) garments around the spring in Ashwell ... and then drove on to meet the rest of the team at Old Amersham, only to hear tales of strange goings on in the car park

Thankfully, Tania was there to cover my ears, so I missed the gory details ... and the actual ride proceeded in a much more dignified fashion (assuming I am forgiven for being well off the back on every climb. I'm already tending to forget those bits and instead to remember the descents, which I did enjoy quite a lot). Logged 48.8mph as my max speed, which is my fastest ever. Yes it made my eyes water, but in a good way. A vgd way :)
  • Great ride guys, I enjoyed that a lot and I might agree with MC that it's a nicer route than the Chiltern 100. Jane I am not sure that arm warmers are under garments.

Well... MC rode well today up those hills. Must have been that early protein shake int car park that did the trick. Wa-hey protein. Or maybe it was those two scotch eggs....Chapeau!
  • Mc riding well up hill!
    We are all doomed.
    Good show.
