Summer might have finally arrived (fingers crossed), so let's head west for a lumpy one towards Barton le Clay/Sundon hills

Can also do a version where we do Whitwell hill instead of Preston - will decide in Lilly

See you all in the morning - possibly in shorts :)

  • Sorry, we won't be out tomorrow, enjoy those hills for us!
  • Sounds good David and at least you won't have a 15 mph head wind all the way to Sharpenhoe Clappers this week.

Can I be your friend then I'll be able to see the route?

Is there going to be anyone else around this week that fancies less of an eyeball popping ride...?
  • Right, should work now. Think that mapmyride have changed their website settings??

Like the description of an eyeball popping ride - none of my rides are ever like that ;)
  • Olly and I will be tackling Pendle Hill again. See you next week, hope you have a good ride.

  • OK, I was wrong, summer definitely didn't arrive yesterday!

Still, that didn't deter a strong bunch setting off for the route above. Pace could be be described as 'lively' both on the flattish sections and up the hills. So, a quick blast through henlow and Clifton, followed by some rollers before the climb of the day from harlington up Sundon hill. Decided at the top to go for the old favourite of Lilly bottom lane/power climb up Whitwell hill, so down through Stretly and through Lilly where somebody lit the after-burners and off we went (in some defiantly not forcasted mild drizzle). All regrouped at the top of Whitwell hill and then back to Baldock for an uphill sprint up the Bygrave road.

So 51 hilly miles @ 17. Thanks all for a great morning, the chain gang and TT training is definitely paying off!!
  • Oh and JohnM I'm pleased to report that all eyeballs are intact - just ;)
  • I'm very pleased to know your eyeballs are still intact and that you all had a good ride.

For the other 6 of us that did not wish to, or in my case could not endure such a challenge, Bob kindly navigated us around about a 30 something mile route and we arrived back at The Tuns before it was actually open.

Fortunately we found that the Rhubarb and Mustard have recently invested in some more tables and chairs and they were able to serve us with some very nice coffee.

See you on the road - Superman!

Good ride out, thanks David and all

Glad to hear you had a good ride too John. There always seems to be enough for an "intermediate" ride. Sorry that I couldn't stay for a drink.

    Tim A - sent you a whisper
    Cheers
    Peter
  • Wow, coffee at Rhubarb & Mustard! That sounds v civilised indeed. Nice find, John
