Saturday 30th May 9.30am club ride

Bit of a new one tomorrow in places, so heading west to Ampthill/Stewartby

Ashwell-Haynes-Maulden-Ampthill-Stewartby-Southhill-Ashwell

If somebody could give me a hand with the Haynes/Maulden/Amphill bit that would be great as the map in my head is a bit sketchy for this section !!

See you in the morning, would suggest shorts again but at a forecasted temp of 11 degrees I think not !!

  • Right, over to Adam for some guest navigation tomorrow then !

Not sure if I was the sunshine or the lure of a guest navigator but a bumper turnout of 20 for the club ride.

Great route out towards Amphill, so headed up to henlow, Ireland, Haynes, maulden, Amphill, milbrook, stewartby, Houghton conquest and a return via Haynes, old warden, broom and Langford.

Cracking pace from the off, but all kept together with some good rotations at the front. Just a couple of afterburner roads with Emma taking the lead around milbrook and Nathan upping the pace on the run back to Hayes. Traditional sprint into Ashwell down the Hinxworth road, won I think by a flying Jenny. Must have been my excellent lead out a mile beforehand :)

So 50 miles @ 17 & some T in the Tuns garden to celebrate.

Massive thanks to AdamR for his excellent navigation, and apologies that the mapmyride directions were a bit duff at times! Thanks all for a great morning and also a big high 5 to all the excellent car drivers who even stopped to let us cross the A6!!
  • Yes, great turnout. Most in shorts with the odd notable exceptions.
Navigation was interesting (Garmin versus memory).
Like the "afterburner roads" - well, it's not often we have decent tarmac. I think Gary was pleased to find himself on the front with Nathan on the way back (not!).

I can confirm that Jenny did indeed win the sprint as her TT training begins to kick in. I'm sure you're lead out had a lot to do with it, despite the comments from some back at the Tuns!

See you at the AGM tomorrow.
    Peter
