Club 10 - Road Resurfacing

edited June 2015 in Time Trial
Heading out through Guilden yesterday, the Dubbs Knoll spur onto the Potton Rd looked very thick with stones. Also, there was a sign up out of Guilden which 'I think' said they are resurfacing from today (I guess from here to the county border).

  • Just rode round that bit of the 10. I won't be riding on Wednesday, there's some slightly worrying patches on the road to Guilden (particularly at the fork to steeple/guilden) then the road through Guilden is dicey at its best. To make things even more hilarious they've chipped the corners out of Morden before the drag.

Be careful out there! I found myself making some "worried noises" as I tried not to touch my brakes on a few bits earlier on...
  • Rubbish isnt it? theyve also been busy on the Gransdens to Gamlingay road and the back end of the Ike Saul course round by the Eversdons to Kingston.

Looks like the gravel budget at South Cambs DC has gone through the roof.

    The 10 looks very doubtful.
  • It's not just down there. On my ride out to Castleton (N.york moors) to watch the Tour de Yorkshire, I had to take a 7 mile diversion as they had just tarred and chipped a 3 mile 10-20% climb...wasn't possible to turn the wheels without slipping. At least they go round after and collect the loose chippings at the sides after a couple of days up here.
sorry your TT's are stopped at present..great times and wonderful to read who is doing what. Congratulations to everyone, the improvements are astounding.
  • Anyone got any thoughts as to alternative TTs for tomorrow night? If the Beeb is to be believed, the wind is supposed to drop to 6mph tomorrow night, not too bad. Unless people are heading elsewhere, I may try to improve on last week's lacklustre performance at Stevenage, but up for trying somewhere new (ideally pan flat with no headwinds, if such a place exists..?).
    Dave. (No Jenny this week)
  • The Team Cambridge one (F2/10CAX) is supposed to be fast.

    Sent you a whisper too!
  • I rode it on Saturday to meet James, where cars have been through Gilden is OK, but where there are shallow depressions running 90 degrees to the travel has left rivers of stones that get very shakey indeed. I wobbled when I hit the 1st 1 at 15mph on 25c's, I'd hate to think what could happen if you hit them at 30 on 19's.

For an alternative, could we run up Northfields, then turn left towards Dunton, through Dunton, round the roundabout and then back the same route? Not sure what the mileage would be though.
  • Unfortunately there is quite a lot of red tape in running tt's. courses have to be approved by the district, risk assessed, police notified in advance etc etc, so its not so easy to change at the last minute.

James is looking at alternatives but i think our 10 will need at least another week.

    Frustrating i know!
  • I'll be with Team Cambridge again. Given the right conditions, this is probably their quickest course......and as highlighted last week, tea & biccies for 25p. They were very welcoming to the additional CCA folk.
  • I'm with stiggers..... only in the TT sense
  • a grass track session possibly?
