Ride the Olympic Velodrome - Sunday 27th September 12-3pm

edited June 2015 in General
Great news! We have managed to secure another session at the Olympic Velodrome.

So here's your chance to ride the boards where so many gold medals have been won. AND where Bradley Wiggins recently achieved the world 1 hour record

This session is open to all CCA members 12 and over, no previous track experience is necessary and training will be provided on the day - though a couple of grass track sessions to get used to riding fixed would be helpful.

Cost should be around £24 per head which includes coaching. Bike hire is an additional £10 and shoes £6 for the session.

If you would like to ride please sign up HERE, we have space for 30 riders and it's first come first served.

Please note we will have to pay the full hire charge in advance, so if you sign up you are committing to pay your share (approx £24).

  • Great - thanks Andrew. I've signed up for me and Archie since he's just turned 12. Looking forward to it.
  • Hi Andrew,

I have ridden London once before but I will probably go into the novice category as I'm sure you will have a lot of strong experienced track specialists there.

    Cheers
    Scott.
  • Hi Andrew,

Not sure if you are aware but there is an Etape cycling event at the venue on this day, I'm guessing this might cause some transport issues and parking in particular?

    Info here - http://humanrace.co.uk/events/cycling/letape-london

    Cheers
    Scott.
  • Good spot Scott

I'll talk to the centre and find what the access arrangements are.

The venue is relatively well served by public transport and there is also ample parking at Westfield so we will be fine - just may need to leave a bit more time.

    Regards

    Andrew
  • Is there a reserve list for this or anyone who wants my spot? Kinda lost me mojo.

    Hey Andrew

Put my name down on the doodle as no 32

I guess a couple of people will drop out? I will need to hire a bike. Not sure what size because I think I want to try a smaller one than I used before.

    Thanks again for organising

    Cheers

edit: I will just work to it as last minute notice,
  • Hi Andrew,

I'm happy for Nathaniel to have my place. Please confirm if this ok. Thanks.
  • Hi Andrew,

I'm afraid I need to drop out too as there is a Cyclocross race on the same day.

    Apologies
    Scott.
  • Hi Andrew

I have seen this too late but added Sam Daniels to the list in case anyone else drops out.

    No problem Scott and Kevin

Nathaniel and Sam Daniels plenty of room for you and if anyone else would like to join then we probably have room for a couple more.

I'll put a new post up later to finalise numbers and kit requirements
  • Hi Andrew

Thanks for that. Sam will be pleased.

    Peter
  • Pete, i hope you intend to ride? Its unlikely to be muddy but you'll love it!
  • I have put my name on the doodle and would like to give it a go.
  • Unfortunately now have to be away for work that weekend so can no longer make it.
happy to pay anyway if we end up short.
  • Sorry Andrew. Need to help Ann that day so can't make it.
  • Andrew, fresh from from my first grass track races today I have signed up for the Olympics - if theres space of course. Richard.
  • I'm suffering from some logistical challenges, can anyone offer a lift down ( with space for a track bike )?
  • Major traffic problems there on M11 - A406 until 2nd October. Our journey to LVVP today took 3.5hrs. Parking has become problem also. Half the car park has been given to non velopark users !!!.
  • That all sounds horrendous, thanks for the info and the tip off. I think ill be going on the train.
  • Spoke to the VeloPark and they say the car park will be open for VeloPark users but we would need to approach from Olympic Park Avenue rather than Abercrombie Road

They expect significant congestion due to L'Etape London - though the last riders should be away by 9.30

Train is a good option or leaving significantly longer time and travelling by car.

Parking is available at Westfield in the event that the VeloPark car park is full or inaccessible on the day.

I will post about bike details and final confirmations later today.

    See you on Sunday

    Andrew
  • I think I'll go by train too and hire bikes when we get there.

Do we need to book bikes/ pay in advance or sort it all out when we get there?

    Pete
  • Andrew, I won't be able to make Sunday now, sorry for the short notice.
    Regards
    Alan
  • Andrew,
Given that people are dropping out is there space for one more on this session? I would bring my own bike.
    Cheers,
    Bryn

    Bryn and all

There is space for more on the session however this time we do need people to be members as Lee Valley have caught commercial organisations selling on these sessions - when they are intended for volunteer run organisations (Second Claim would be fine)

    Regards

    Andrew
  • Andrew,
I am currently a second claim member of CCA so no problems here. I have added myself to the list.
    Best, Bryn
  • It looks like there will be spare places on Sunday, so if youve ever wondered what its like to wizz round an olympic velodrome you wont get a better chance.

    Absolutely no experience necessary.
  • I'm going to have to drop out, another spare place available
  • No traffic issues today. Roads clear. Abercrombe road is blocked but if you tell the Marshall your using velodrome he will let you through. Loads of parking here today.
