Sunday 6th September 9.30am - blue egg ride

edited September 2015 in Club runs
As I can't make Saturday this week, I'm planning to do a Sunday cake spin to the Blue Egg if anybody wants to join me.

9.30 start from the Three Tuns, club pace. Out via Buntingford/Newport/Debden and return via Webens Ambo, Great Chishill etc. 70ish miles so should be back sometime mid-afternoon.

  • Can't make this one either ( gutted)
    Have a good one!
  • I'm in (I think)
  • Could we go at 9?
  • I'm in...depending on how the post Wells legs are feeling I may drop off at an appropriate point (ie, after the cake stop!)

I'll meet you somewhere around Buntingford.
  • As I'm no fit state to ride today - I'm in!
  • Lets stick to the advertised 9.30am start.

11 miles from Ashwell to Buntingford, so Jenny we should be with you sometime around 10.15

If the forecast is correct, slap on the suncream as summer has returned :)
  • This sounds lovely, wish i could join you but on football duty tomorrow :(
    have fun in the sunshine,
  • Just so happens Me and a friend are setting out at 8.30 and trying to make our own way - we make see you there, or on route. Sun is out!!!
  • Our first trip out to the blue egg. Have heard so much about and it was very nice. Lucky we had some cash as their card machine was out. Saw the big CCA group just as we left in the sunshine. Lot of riders out this morning.

Disappointed the super smooth road out of Sampford to Finchingfield which was on resurfaced for the 2013 TdF has already been resurfaces again on 1 section with chippings :-(
  • Thanks for the ride, sorry to bail out so early. I can recommend Debden Barns if ever Blue Egg is a step too far.

I had a lovely pootle back in the sunshine and finished with 44 miles at 15.5, which my legs assured me was plenty far and fast enough!
  • Nice to see the CCA riders leaving as me and my mate arrived - having taken 60 miles and left an hour earlier!! 92 miles round trip in total, but got to cheer Baron on in his race as it passed Saffron Walden, think he finished well inside top ten and looks a good bet for achieving his 2nd CAT next year. I fancy stopping at the lovely looking bike/coffee shop in Saffron Walden when next out that way - although could prove expensive.
  • Nice riding, All. It was MARVELLOUS to ride in sunshine again

Good to finally meet Mitch .. and to wave at the Fields ... not so good to have my tyre go flat. Thanks for your patience

Great day out today. Sunshine and light(ish) wind, it's what cycling is all about. 5 of us set out from Ashwell and met Jenny at precisely 10.15 on Buntingford high street ! Great rolling countryside as you get the other side of Newport and after saying goodbye to Jenny in Debden made it to the blue egg in time for an early lunch. Great cake as normal and the bonus of some warm sunshine in the sun trap courtyard and a handy track pump to fix Jaynes tyre. Good to see Mitchy and the Fields as our paths crossed.

Suitibly refreshed with the fuel of champions we headed back to Newport and returned via Clanver end/Great Chishill/barley and Therfield.

So final stats were a whisker under 70 miles @ 16.5. Thanks all for a grand day out!

Oh and the answer to the most important question of the day - it's 36 miles from Great Beardfield to Waltham Cross. Clearly the signpost is incorrect !!
  • Great ride today - really enjoyed the company and sunshine. My protein cookie made it home in one piece and was a nice reward with 80 miles on the clock at 16.3 by the time I got home. Thanks all for a great ride.
  • Not sure the beetroot surge kicked in yesterday although am feeling decidedly dodgy today so either I was over zealous with the nitrate packed root veg or my pace problems were caused by the impending viral doom that befalls me today!

On the point of Waltham X, I am led to believe the x is added to make it sound cooler... As in Malcolm!
