Winter cometh and thus does apply
Winter bikes , high cadence and low speeds
35 to 40 miles 16 mph max
Fog horn I hear you cry
Time for those high lux lights
Cap'n is getting all cultured on us. We need to remember this about the Pig:
In few, they hurried us aboard a bark, Bore us some leagues to sea; where they prepared A rotten carcass of a butt, not rigg'd, Nor tackle, sail, nor mast; the very rats Instinctively had quit it: there they hoist us, To cry to the sea that roar'd to us, to sigh To the winds whose pity, sighing back again, Did us but loving wrong.
Alternatively:
The nights are colder now Maybe, I should close the door And anyway the snow has covered all your footsteps And I can follow you no more
Looks dry tomorrow so still on Summer bike + Ass Saver. Leastways I've been too bone idle to refit the mudguards to my CX bike after a Summer of commuting on the Greenway. Shouldn't be a problem for those following the wheels.
FD - couldn't work out if you were riding tomorrow from your message? If not, hope all well and recovery going as planned.
Could be the last ship on calm seas tomorrow so hopefully a good sized crew in the morning.
Not out tomorrow Jeremy, thanks for your thoughts.
However, I did manage my first ride today for 6 weeks - 10 miles pootle off road on the gas pipe Cotic 'cross bike, partly on the greenway, which was exhausting! It was so, so good to be back in the saddle, how I've missed my bike and riding with friends.
I've been walking the dogs around home and walking across London twice a day to work and back from Kings Cross, but it's a different kind of fitness - 6 miles walking every day does nothing for your cycling muscles! Back on the Brompton from Monday....
All form completely gone since mid-September and now need to very slowly build back up again. Still under doctor's orders, but allowed gentle rides from now on until next check up at Moorfields in late November. Fingers crossed.
John - that sounds like good progress to me. Maybe see it as off season cross training! Least ways a chance to recharge mentally after a long season culminating in Paris Nice.
Reckon starting again in December with a really positive mental attitude better than racing in October and November and dying through into the new year.
Thanks James. A good turn out despite the fog. The usual eclectic mix of CCA enjoying a steady 30-40miles at 16mph. Everyone riding to keep the group together with only a brief split on Croydon hill. Didn't even have the finishing sprint for the Ashwell sign.
A few summer bikes still on show today - got to end soon.

I say, boy, pay attention when I'm a talkin' to ya, boy!
Slow, solo ride, I say, slow solo ride in the fog this morning. Thicker than pea soup, boy, between Hitchin, Henlow, Meppershall, Shliington & Pirton. 16 miles @ 14.5moh and that was enough after an enforced lay off, boy.

It's so strange the way he talking - it's a disgrace
Well I know I've been out of style
For a short while
But I don't care how cold you are
I'm coming home soon
I'm gonna make you a star
Fog horns at the ready
Wimpole, Croydon, gamlingay
Familiar roads , familiar faces

10 out for 35 miles at 16 mph
Spin, spin, no sprints, no win
Good steady pace in the fog
Base fitness, winter bikes,
Chat, chat remove the fat
Thanks to all, had a ball
Then to the pub, had some Sunday grub
Texas scramble, followed the ramble
Play the chips, eat the dips
Life I dig, follow the pig
