Monday Roller Sessions

edited November 2015 in General
Hi all,

This winter's Monday roller training starts on the 16th November. This is at the United Reform Church Hall in Ashwell. Rollers are an ideal tool for developing your pedaling technique and other balancing skills. Rollers are a key skill for those looking to go on to track riding/racing at Welwyn or Stratford.

We have a couple of sets of rollers that those without can borrow. The session includes a warm up, a skills session and then some interval training or a time trial. If you haven't ridden rollers before then we will help get you started.

Arrive to set up at 6:30pm, finish by 8:30pm.
£3 per person
Freewheel bikes (with gears) with a calibrated computer preferred but not essential. Track bikes are acceptable too.

Don't forget a towel and drinks
There is a kitchen for you/parents to make teas and coffees

Sign up below if interested. (Let us know if you need to borrow rollers)

Best wishes,
Mark.

  • Hi Mark,

Can I sign Ethan up please? He has his own rollers.

    Cheers
    Scott.
  • I'm in if I can make it from work.
  • Hi Mark,

Count me in, can I borrow a set of rollers please.

    Dan.
  • Hi Mark

Archie would love to come along to the sessions although he might not be able to make it tonight. We'll try but otherwise next week for sure.

  • Great session yesterday. Really good start. Well done to George and Rhys having their first go and making good progress.

Harley showed everyone the way with her skills.

Don't forget to bring tea or coffee if you are assisting a rider - you can always make one for Tim who will be running next week!

  • Hi Mark,

I'm up for it. I've not used rollers before, so would I be able to borrow some?

    Will this be every Monday?

    George
  • George,

Yes you should be able to borrow some ok. I'm not there tomorrow, Tim is in charge. We may be a but short on spare rollers tomorrow but you can share with someone else who is learning . You won't want to do the full 1.5 hours anyway!

Yes we are every Monday until around Easter time.

    Mark.
  • Good session last night, 12 riders which is great. Lucy, George and Alfie all having their first go at rollers. Didnt seem to tricky for George!
Sorry to Dan who turned up but we didnt have any spare rollers. Mark will be back next week so should be spare rollers then.
  • There will be plenty of sets of rollers there tomorrow. Plus I will bring a Wattbike along if anyone would like to have a quick go.

    Mark.
  • 15 tonight....gonna need a bigger hall!

  • Mark,

You mentioned when we will be having sessions over Christmas.
Would you be able to post them here as I have forgotten which dates you had said.

    Thanks
    George
  • George,

We are running (rolling) on Monday, not on the 28th Dec, back on the 4th Jan.

    Points race this Monday.

    Mark.
  • Thanks Mark

    I'll bring my green jersey!

    George
  • Hi,

I am a new member and am interested in getting involved in the roller sessions. Are they still happening every Monday night? Can I just turn up on the night, and do I need to bring a set of rollers with me?

    Thanks,
    Brendan
  • Hi BrendanR

Yes, the roller training is still going on, on a Monday night. Just turn up at the URC hall on the High Street in Ashwell from 6.30pm. By the time everyone is set up it is normally a 6.45 start. If you have your own rollers then please bring them as otherwise you may need to share. The URC Hall in the one at the junction between Kingsland Way and the High Street.

  • It has been really good to see how these sessions have been taken up and developed. A huge thumbs up to Mark, Tim and others who have made this happen. Everyone would gain by learning to ride and buying their own rollers.
