    Hello everyone

    DON'T MISS OUT!

We are confirmed: Saturday, 27th Feb evening at The Three Tuns, Ashwell, for our end of season awards and Club evening.

We have arranged exclusive use of the nice dining room just for us. It will be a sit-down 3-course affair, in between the giving out of awards and maybe a silly little mini quiz around dessert time. The food at the Tuns is excellent. I'll arrange a menu later. The guys there have always supported us, so it's nice to give them our custom.

It's a lovely opportunity to chat with other members without having to catch your breath on downhills, as well as cheer all those that have achieved bicycle greatness over the last 12 months. Maybe you've even won a gong: so pick it up in style. Of course, the invite extends to other halves and friends. The emphasis is on celebration and thanks - everyone welcome.

The room has a limit on numbers and we'd rather keep us all together than spilling out to the other side of the pub.

So, please put your name down on the doodle if you would like to come. Once menu confirmed, I can confirm ticket price. I can tell you now, it'll be great value for the quality.

As this is an evening do, there is a separate event being planned for the juniors.

    First come, first served. Max 47 people. Please put your name[s] down here;

  • I've copied MC and written + 1 (going to bring my wife) does this work with doodle thing?. Sorry for being a technophobe.
  • Hi Mitchy

I've amended the poll and added your +1 as a name. So that the list tallies accurately.

Meanwhile... can someone let Bob know about the dinner on Wed's club ride? In case he fancies it. And anyone else who doesn't frequent the forum.

    ta.
  • Wow. All 47 dinner places are now taken. Looking forward to a great night in Feb.

Of course: anyone who wants to come along for the speeches, gongs and social side of things are still very welcome. And the rest of the pub will be very accommodating. But the room itself can't sit more than 47 for dinner.

If anyone has to drop out... Please update the doodle. Ta.

I will update soon on dinner menu and cost.
  • Dear dinner people...

We have our first person on the reserve list. If anyone has to drop out: please update the Doodle and delete your name.

    thanks
  • do we have a menu and cost yet Martin?

    Hello diners

Before anything else, please note: the dinner is now FULL. If you would like to sit with us to eat, email me privately at martin@ccashwell.com and let’s see if anyone can’t make it on the night.

Everyone is welcome to the evening - but the dining room itself at time of writing is now full. You can eat on the other side room, of course if you wanted.

Dinner attendees. You need to do two things…

    1. Pay for your dinner[s] now.
Tickets are £30 each, for a three-course meal. Ideally, pay into the Club accounts directly by t’internet banking.
    • Sort code: 20 – 41 - 12
    • Account number: 20382167
    • Please reference the words: DINNER + your surname

Note: We won’t send a confirmation.

We can also accept cheques, payable to ‘Cycle Club Ashwell’ but would prefer not to as this put a strain on Club accounts. If paying by cheque, please bring on the night and hand over to Martin L. No cash please.

    2. Select from the menu

I’ve asked the chaps at the Tuns to add a cycling twist, and they’ve responded by doffing caps to France and Belgium styles. Please now select a Starter, Main, Dessert - per ticket - from the list below and email your choice to Martin L at martin@ccashwell.com

    • To start

S1. French Onion Soup with blue cheese mousse

S2. Black Pudding & Scampi Crumble with garlic, parmesan & herb crust

S3. Smoked Chicken & Ham Hock Terrine with shallot purée - poached apple - pistachio - sourdough crisp

    • Main course

M1. Slow Cooked Shin of Beef with celeriac purée - truffle mash - charred carrots & baby onions - purple sprouting broccoli

M2. Corn-fed Chicken Supreme with potato fondant - sage & onion bon bon - mushroom purée - spinach

M3. Confit Salmon with braised fennel - beetroot & yoghurt - saffron potato - dill cream

M4. Warm Winter Vegetable Salad - Spiced quinoa - smoked yoghurt - courgette tempura - caramelised onion broth

    • Dessert

D1. Lemon Posset, popping champagne jelly - crisp shortbread

D2. Belgian Chocolate Mousse, salted caramel - yoghurt sorbet - chocolate caramel tuile

D3. Rhubarb, Orange & Ginger Crumble, crème anglaise

I’m sure people will start turning up 7-7.30pm. The trophy presentations will start approx 8pm and dinner approx 8.30pm or so. But expect it all to change a little on the night. I'll try and make a fun quiz along the way too around or after dessert: no cycling knowledge required. Well, maybe a little bit.
  • Hi Martin

    thanks for sorting all this.

I see in true French/Belgium style they have completely forgotten that not everybody eats meat or fish. Does the other side room offer a vegetarian option?
  • Zut alors you're right Stuart. I have asked the tuns for a vegetarian main course. Some of you may want to hold back on your menu choice until then.
  • Martin,

I'll email dinner choice once veg option is out - my wife is a veggie (who may eat fish). I'm about to have a go at transferring money.
  • paid I think!
  • I'm pretty sure that chicken was a vegetable last time I checked
  • Yes I guess if it only eats corn then that makes chicken a vegetarian so that is probably ok
  • The moment you've all been waiting for:

    M4. Warm Winter Vegetable Salad
Spiced quinoa - smoked yoghurt - courgette tempura - caramelised onion broth

See above for the other options. Please choose n' pay soon.
  • Thanks to the following for your fine internet machine payments:)

    Andrews x2
    Mitchy x 2
    Doncaster
    Koppe x 2

    Keep em coming!

btw the bank has stopped sending me replacement cheque books for the club accounts so I think they are telling us something....

    JD
  • A reminder to please choose and pay for the dinner please. Thanks to all who have so far.

See above for menu and payment options.

    thanks
  • Dinner folk...

If you haven't selected and paid: please do so this week if poss.

    All details above. Ta.
  • Hi Dinner peeps

I look forward to Saturday eve, 27th...

Around 10 people have yet to tell me their order - and presumably pay too.

If you haven't done so: please look above at the menu choices and let me know your Starter, Main, Dessert - and please pay so we don't stress the club accounts. And the Tuns know how much Belgian Chocolate to ship in...

    Email your choices to;

    martin@ccashwell.com

    cheers
    Martin
