Some of the worlds best roadies were top track riders and still bridge the two disciplines.
Rollers will improve your pedaling and smooth it out as well as improving your core strength

If you can stretch the extra £50 then these (£149) from Planet-X are a very good alternative; they have aluminium rollers and better bearings
I had a set of the Tacx and found that after time, and a lot of use, two things happen: the bearing become very noisy and the clamp loosens and so the band side gets pulled over and you and up riding diagonally. That said the parabolic drums make learning much easier and they do pack up easily [ though why you'd ever want to put them away... ]
With the PX models you can get a resistance drum, uses strong magnets, and on high gearing can make for a tough work out.
