Youth Track Results

edited January 2016 in General
Sophie Lewis has show dramatic improvements in her track cycling over the last 3-4 months, thanks to being picked up last October to join British Cycling's high performance training programme - the Regional School of Racing. This provides several sessions over the year of high level coaching, which includes 4 hours of track time, classroom work, rollers plus fitness training. Her training really helped last Thursday when she was competing in the London Youth Track League at the olympic velodrome and had her best ever set of results. 2nd in the 18 lap scratch race, 3rd in the 4 lap dash, 3rd in the elimination race and 2nd in the points race. These were good results as she was racing against girls in the older age categories (juniors and under 16's) who were able to race with bigger gears and different wheels. Sophie is only 13.

On Saturday she was racing in the first of the Icebreaker series at the Newport velodrome. This series provide some of the few open youth events that are held at an indoor velodrome, hence attracts a national level field. Again Sophie had a fantastic day finishing 2nd overall, with a 3rd in the scratch race, 5th in the points race and 1st in the elimination race.

Its maddison training next weekend prior to her first competitive maddison race on the 11th Feb!
