Etape du Dales Preparation Ride

edited April 2016 in General
AndyR and I are riding the route of the Chiltern 100 Sportive on Saturday.
The route is actually 110miles with 2700m of climbing.
Routes can be viewed and downloaded from the Human Race website.
Meet for 8am start at the National Trust car park on Dunstable Downs (we finish up Bison Hill!)
Others welcome - please post here.

  • Yes. Tempted. Will confirm Friday. Sounds like a good one.
  • Sadly I can't join you. I am looking after Henry all weekend so won't be able to get out.

Track Friday night... but fancy this as well. See how it goes... Will confirm Friday too.
  • Good idea, Jeremy

I'm tempted too, but slightly injured and hoping it settles fast. So I'm probably better off doing a long ride with less climbing this weekend

(Aiming to do something like the sportive route next weekend)
  • Ok if we are doing this I need motivation.
Car share? Otherwise I can see myself bailing out and opting for a local 8am ride with hills.
Jane, hope injury is not too serious?
  • Should be ok, thx Vince. Just needs a chance to mend, so a Jeremy-pace on hills is not what it needs this w/e
  • Weather looking really good for Saturday - sunny but cool.
Thinking a couple of brief stops along the way.
Quick coffee in Chinnor and maybe around Great Missenden.
Aiming to set off from the car park on Dunstable Downs (off B4541) at 8am.

This ride and/or the one Jane is aiming to do next weekend will be ideal preparation for the Etape.

Track tonight is now not on (apparently its raining in Welwyn).

So will join you for the ride tmw. How long does the journey take by car to the car park on Dunstable Downs - about an hour?
Got a post code? Maybe this is it for the National Trust.... Sat Nav: LU6 2GY (or LU6 2TA for older equipment).

Vince my car only fits one bike though. Or i'd give you a lift.
  • Post code is LU6 2GY - Chilterns Gateway Centre owned by National Trust.
Just off B4541 on the top of the Downs
I would allow an hour to get there and be ready to ride at 8am.
I'm thinking A507 to Ampthill then A5120 to Dunstable.

I have the route on my Garmin but would be good if you could download too.
You can get the GPX for the Gran Fondo off the Human Race website

I'm heading out so see you at the car park
Had no internet last night so problems communicating.
    Should be there at 7.30am
  • Well... that got the legs climbing again! Solid hill training chaps. Great ride.
  • Good day out in the Chilterns - a great way to celebrate St George's Day and Shakespeare's birthday.
Four out - Robbie, AndyR, Vincent and myself.
    Four punctures.
    Chip shop sausages for Four.
