Sophie L was competing in the Cardiff round of the National Youth Circuit Series this morning. This was her first national level road race, competing on a tough and wet criterium circuit around Cardiff city centre for 60 minutes. She finished in 5th place which was fantastic. This was in part thanks to the sterling efforts of the team at Flamme Rouge Cycle shop in Bedford who set up her new road bike perfectly.
Last weekend Sophie competed in the final qualifying round of the National Omnium Series (track) and a second place in that event meant that she has now qualified for the National Finals in July. Sophie smashed the track record for the 1Km time trial by over 4 seconds (her own record from 2015). She was nearly 2 seconds in front of the winning rider in the age category above hers. Her overall second place though was due to being relegated in the sprint, for deviating from the sprinters line. This cost her the overall win unfortunately, but it is unlikely she will make this mistake again!
