Last week summer, this week who knows ! Prob going to be a touch breezy though, so lets head south which should be a bit more sheltered.

Ashwell, Slip End, Buntingford, Wydial, Westmill, Dane End, High Elms, Walkern, Cromer, Rushden, Ashwell 41 miles

Fingers crossed it's not 90% headwind !!

  • You mean like the kind of seemingly permanent headwind we had at the TT on Wednesday - yes I sincerely hope not too!

    Route looks good.
  • Early coffee at Rhubarb
Maybe best part of the day

Eight of us out this morning to do battle with the met office yellow wind warning. Bit of a damp start, but luckily we seemed to be just behind the shower clouds and in the sunshine for most of the ride.

Surprisingly the out leg to Buntingford supposedly into a killer headwind wasn't really that bad & we zipped along to Wydial and back to Hare Street. Out of Westmill & up to Cherry green with still no headwind. As we were passing their front door, we had an excellent stop at Dave and Jenny's for some coffee and birthday cake in their lovely sun trap garden which fuelled us nicely for a rapid tailwind powered return all the way back to Ashwell.

Obviously there had to be a sprint down the slip end road with myself (Eisel) and PeteT (renshaw) sacrificing ourselves with a lead out for the dynamic trio of Cav, kittel and Sagan to fight it out for the win.

So 43 miles @ 17.5 and a recovery beverage in the sunshine in the Tuns celebrate a great ride :)

Thanks all for a great morning - enjoyed that !
  • Thanks all for a fab morning, surely one of the best club rides, and we even managed to find some shelter in the lanes from the headwind. Also impressed that 37% of the ride were called Dave!!
