Velovelocity open 25: E2/25 sat 3rd sept 2016

After a morning of weather watching I decided to risk it and took my place on the start line of the glorious A14! As you all know Saturday afternoon wasn't the best weather wise and so I didn't really have high hopes. However as it was my last 25 of the season I held nothing back and battled the ridiculous headwind whilst trying to ignore the trucks and caravans thundering past.

Luckily my form in the club 10's in recent weeks didn't apply to a 25 and I amazingly crossed the finish line in less than an hour with a time of 58:21!
I am well pleased with that and have knocked 11mins off my 25 pb over the course of this year.

I think there were a few other CCA'ers down to ride but much later than me so didn't catch up with them..........would be good to hear how you got on.

  • Great ride Emma. I was 9th to last off at 4:21. I set the bike up on the trainer to warmup and promptly retreated into the car as the heavens opened at about 3:20. I sat there pondering whether to ride, but handily it left off and I got a good warmup done. Was cutting it fine getting to the start with about 90 seconds to spare..perfect. By this time it had started spitting again but as I was there I thought I would just get on with it and see. Bit hairy joining the carriageway but once I was on it was time to settle. Plan was to bury it to the turn into the headwind and see what I had for the way back. Hit lap halfway round the roundabout with about 28 mins on the clock. Drat, but I was way up on power compared to my only other time on this course. By this time it was absolutely chucking it down and I could barely see through the visor. Handily it was a tailwind all the way home. Accelerated back onto the A11 and it was 52x11 almost all the way home. I averaged 32mph for the 12.5 back to the finish (26.4 I think for the first half) doing the last 5 in 8:45 according to strava, in the end this was good enough for a 52:31 on a slightly long course as the finish was on the slip road. 19th solo which I was pleased with on a big dog open with less than ideal conditions, only 45s down on my pb from the middle marker float day.
  • well done Emma! A brilliant time especially on Saturday which was such a grim day. Really well done this season and what a great way to finish :-)
