Eastern Cyclocross League Round 1 - Hog Hill

Just a quick not to reassure you all that Stuart Field is absolutely fine after his crash which left him dazed and confused. I've just spoken to him after being checked over at Addenbrooks Hospital. He was very grateful for all the support and help he had from racers, organisers and club members.

A really hard course!

Some good results to report, but I am too tired to do so now. Laters.

Ooh, sounds nasty. Hope you are ok Stuart.
  • Hope you're feeling better now Stuart. A few riders were asking after you today.

As Daniel said a tough course that went up or down, with the down being fairly technical and bumpy with the baked ground. Contrary to the weather Ashwell had for the grass track we didn't have any serious rain until just before my race which made the course very greasy and slippy rather than muddy.

Mark Lightfoot looked in great form, riding away from the field to win the U12s very convincingly.

  • Thanks for posting this Daniel and recovering my bike. Also to Neil for driving us home.
Load of bruises this morning and just generally aching all over. Head also still a bit dull. Must have been out for a bit as my last recollection is the collision and then being looked at by the paramedic back at HQ. Not really clear on the bit in between.

Bit of an expensive weekend all in all. I need a new crash helmet and Noah trashed a tub at Springfield today :-(
  • Glad it's nothing too serious. Note to the less young. I lost a buddie from a blood clot that probably took hold after a couple of crashes in the winter. He was really competitive and also racing hard in his mid fifties. Doctors didn't diagnose it until too late. Not a doctor so don't know the details but watch out for signs in the next six months or so. Someone with knowledge could give more info but it could be a low risk with serious consequences that can be avoided.
Looks like I'm missing the cross season again. Will try and do some after the Belgium trip.
