Knee specialists

Help sought!

Can anyone recommend a knee injury specialist / consultant, preferably (but not exclusively) in the local area? I've got a problem that isn't going away with rest.

  • Hi Andy,

I am seeing a Dr Dorrell at pinehill hospital in Hitchin tomorrow following an accident a month ago. I am going through my private medical so unsure on cost.

First appointment is tomorrow so couldn't comment yet but he is a knee & sports injury specialist though.

  • I saw Dr Cathy Speed at the Spire Lea in Impington a few years ago. She is a specialist in Sports and exercise medicine. She's very good, but expensive. I think you may need a referral from your GP to get an appointment.

  • Many thanks for getting back to me Janet and Alan, it's very much appreciated. I do have medical insurance so I'll check out my options wrt referrals. Someone who knows sports injuries (and understands my OTT impatience to get pedalling again!) would be a big plus.

I hope your appointment goes well Janet.

  • 2nd vote for Pinehill knee guy.
  • Also Dr Dorrell fixed my collarbone and he's a lovely guy!
  • Saw Dr Dorrell today, need to go back for an MRI, but he was really nice and really knowledgeable. He explained the anatomy of the knee to me to explain what is going on etc which was really helpful......rather than just telling me technical terms that go straight over my head!! :-D
  • Thanks all, sounds like a big positive vote for Dr Dorrell. My GP reckons it's tendonitis. Think my running days are drawing swiftly to conclusion :-(

Janet - I hope your scan turns out well.
  • Quick update...

I went to see Mr Dorrell. He's an extremely nice, helpful chap indeed! He sent me for an MRI scan (astounding, btw) and reckons there is no obvious damage / tendonitis, so great news. He thinks my pain is caused by something "biomechanical" (a muscle imbalance) so I'm starting physio to correct things.

Pushing weights at the gym seems to really be helping - I guess that means I need to do more of it :-(
