Sportives / 2017 - anyone got plans or ideas or goals?

edited October 2016 in Road Racing
I'm looking at targeting and smashing some sportives next year

Current thoughts

Phoenix - club staple!

Chiltern 100 - I know it has been commercialised since we all did it before, but I don't really have anything against that

Etape Dales - been told year after year this is one not to miss!

Is anyone thinking of entering any of these? Or others?

  • The best ride I managed to do this year was the Fred Whitton (http://www.fredwhittonchallenge.co.uk/). Brutally hard, but fantastic. I am very keen to have another go next year.
  • Etape du Dales is one I would like to do again after this year's fab outing.
  • Cool cheers guys
Oh yeah I've heard of the Whitton. Will check it out. "Brutally hard" sounds fun!
  • Nat - it would be great if you could join us for the 2017 Pyrenean trip. Even if you don't then look out for trips to Geoff's for long hard training rides in the Yorkshire Dales. Just as hard as sportives but with a bit more CCA fun thrown in!
  • JP can't join the trip but 100% Geoff's! Cheers!!

We should bring back the Geoff Denny 100 Classic as a weekend day ride in the early summer. But it kinda needs a champion...
  • Martin 100%! Thank you for posting. Plan to make all of them this year! MC for sure however probably spending a week (hopefully more) in calpe with some friends in feb - so directing all available funds that way! Wasn't able to get out there this year so really want to do it next year.
  • Just signed up for the l'Étape du Tour

    Briancon - Col d'Izoard stage 18
  • Nice one Skelders.

...And there's the Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo. You could call it a racy sportive. Qualify and the UCI World Champs later in the year is in France in 2017. Doable...
